Description

Under direction, to organize and coordinate the repair and maintenance scheduling of County owned vehicles or vehicles maintained by the County under contract.Typical Tasks

Checks, enters and maintains information in vehicle maintenance database system regarding vehicle inspection and preventive maintenance (PM) schedules;

Prepares monthly lists of vehicles due for preventive maintenance and sends lists to agencies and departments and works with organizations to have vehicles serviced;

Creates and closes work orders for vehicle when repairs or PMs are scheduled and updates database;

Coordinates necessary work with priority list and timeline for completion and writes necessary work orders;

Assures that repair, inspection and preventive maintenance work is scheduled and prioritizes maintenance jobs according to established standards;

Consults with supervisor or lead on the scheduling of preventive maintenance work assignments;

Coordinates contracted repairs, warranty and recall work orders with third party vendors;

Maintains all necessary records including updating the database when a vehicle is worked on and noting the type of services and / or repairs performed;

Sends monthly and one time bills to internal customers;

Processes invoices for repair work completed by outside vendors;

Initiates and resolves issues with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and maintains vehicle registration and title information; coordinates approvals and handling of confidential license plates;

Communicates with customers (departments or users) when vehicles are to be scheduled for PM services or repairs and provides accurate, complete and up-to-date information; makes reminder calls as needed;

Initiates processing of invoices and purchase orders for supplies and equipment;

Maintains radio installation and repair schedule;

Performs related work as required.

Employment Standards

Possession of a valid California driver's license is required prior to appointment and an acceptable driving record, which will qualify for and maintain a County Driver's Permit.

Sufficient training or education and vehicle maintenance repair experience, which demonstrates possession of the following knowledge and abilities:

Experience Note:

The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform this function are normally acquired by training and experience equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

ANDTwo (2) years of experience working in a vehicle service department writing up and/or processing repair service orders.

Knowledge of:

General knowledge of vehicle maintenance shop practices and equipment operations;

Basic mathematics;

Office practices and procedures including filing systems;

Computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and/or databases.Ability to:

Use a keyboard with moderate speed and a high level of accuracy;

Read and understand computer printouts;

Analyze information and plan effective courses of action;

Schedule preventive maintenance of vehicles;

Understand and utilize rate schedules;

Write reports;

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
