This position performs a variety of accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions. This position also assists with processing and depositing of checks received.
This position will be a hybrid schedule with required in-office three (3) days per week with an occasional need to be on-site as needed. PERA office is located in St. Paul, MN.
This position is eligible for telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) . Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Experience
must clearly
demonstrate:
Reviewing and entering data into a financial system, employee payroll or timekeeping system(s), such as the State Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT), employee payroll or timekeeping system(s) such as the State Employee Management System (SEMA4), or comparable systems
Math skills sufficient to calculate, review, and reconcile data and balance accounts
Skills in data entry and using spreadsheet and word processing software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel, to create spreadsheets and other documents and accurately enter, maintain and report on data
Ability to identify and solve problems, advise others, handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and apply innovative approaches and opportunities for streamlining existing processes
Customer service verbal and written skills sufficient to provide effective prompt, courteous, and accurate information to internal and external customers
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems
Ability to work effectively and efficiently independently and in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT), or other private or governmental accounting system, sufficient to query and compile records and reports, and assist with preparation and maintenance of spending plans, financial status reports and budget requests
Ability to read, understand, and apply state and federal laws and collective bargaining agreement (CBA) provisions regarding employee work time, leaves and business expenses
Experience processing payroll, account payable/receivable activity and deposits
Physical Requirements
Requires occasional lifting and carrying of articles such as file folders, ledgers, and small office equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one that involves sitting, a certain amount of movement is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
Additional Requirements
It is the policy of the Retirement Systems of MN that all employees submit to a background investigation prior to employment. The background check may consist of the following components:
