Normal, ILJob SummaryThe Director of Athletics provides leadership for a department of 130 coaches and staff who are committed to the development of over 450 student-athletes across 19 varsity programs. As the leader of Redbird Athletics, the AD reports directly to the President while providing oversight of strategic planning, fiscal affairs, fundraising, athletics facilities, regulatory compliance, staffing, and general operations. The AD represents ISU and the Department with integrity while ensuring compliance with University, NCAA, MVC, and MVFC policies, fosters a positive culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and promotes the role of athletics in the ISU and Normal communities.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performing all Athletics administration, compliance, public relations, and other duties normally attributed to the position of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.- Complying with all laws, statutes, regulations, rulings, rules or enactments, and University policies and practices that are applicable to the job responsibilities. AD shall comply with, and AD's position shall be subject to, any and all laws, rules, rulings, regulations, and enactments governing the University including, without limitation, those of the NCAA, and the Missouri Valley Conference or any other governing body having oversight of the athletic programs of the University or as required by law, governing association rules or University rules, as reasonably determined by the University- Maintaining sound practices associated with the management of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics budget, and the guidelines associated with athletic eligibility;- Supervising and managing the staff of the Athletics Department, ensuring compliance of the Department and staff with all applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the University, NCAA, and Title IX;- Supporting academic enhancement programs designed to increase graduation and retention rates;- Leadership - possesses proven leadership and organizational skills and abilities; excels in team building; demonstrates the ability to provide dynamic and visionary leadership in establishing an organizational infrastructure which is conducive to productivity, efficiency, and long-term planning; and demonstrates the ability to develop loyalty, camaraderie, and high morale, as well as an environment for success, in the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.- Integrity - possesses unquestionable integrity and personal values that reflect positively on the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and the University.- Fundraising - demonstrates significant success in fundraising and external affairs; demonstrates the ability to increase funding for athletics facilities, scholarships, and general operating budgets.- Communication and Public Relations - has the proven ability to communicate effectively with different and wide-ranging constituencies; demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with athletics department staff, university administrators, faculty, students and student government, alumni, colleagues, friends of the University, and the public community; and demonstrates success in marketing an athletics program.- Personnel Management - demonstrates the ability to identify, recruit, hire, nurture, mentor, and supervise successful coaches and senior administrative staff.- Is expected to maintain a commitment to:- The mission of Intercollegiate Athletics as an integral part of the University.- High academic standards and academic success for all student-athletes.- High athletic achievement standards and winning teams.- Gender equity and diversity.- Personal and character development and welfare of all student-athletes.- Must demonstrate a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines of the NCAA, MVC and/or MVFC, the State of Illinois, Illinois State University and the Athletics Department.- In addition, must direct and monitor compliance of the intercollegiate athletics program with all rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines of Title IX, the NCAA, MVC and/or MVFC, the State of Illinois, Illinois State University and the Athletics Department.Additional InformationComplete position profile provided here: Collegiate Sports Associates - Illinois State University Director of AthleticsSalary Rate / Pay Rate$220,000 - $260,000, commensurate with experience.Proposed Starting DateFebruary 2025Special Instructions for ApplicantsThe position will remain open until filled; but, for best consideration, applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of application and resume electronically via: www.collegiatesportsassociates.com by January 13, 2025.
