Description of Duties:
The Learning Commons at the University at Albany seeks to hire a STEM Tutor Coordinator for the EXCELlence in STEM grant program. STEM tutoring facilitates student learning in large-enrollment STEM courses through small group sessions led by undergraduate peer educators. In this position, the STEM Tutor Coordinator will supervise undergraduate students, support evidence-based tutoring practices, and exercise regular and ongoing decision-making about the daily operations of the STEM tutor program.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, STEM, or other related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
Familiarity with the Supplemental Instruction model
Knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices including collaborative learning techniques, learning theories, and study strategies applicable to a college environment.
Experience providing training and professional development using facilitative pedagogy
Experience in developing and implementing successful student program
Demonstrated experience and ability to hire, train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate students
Excellent organizational and analytical skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing demands
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of the Learning Commons team
Demonstrated experience and ability to collaborate constructively with campus partners and stakeholders, including undergraduates, graduate students, lecturers, faculty, and staff
Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion
At least 3 years of relevant experience in peer education program development or coordination in an institution of higher education
Preferred Qualifications
Experience conducting assessments and using data for decision-making and planning
Experience engaging in strategic planning for a unit or program
Experience working with a diverse student population
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $55,000-$60,000
