Director of Systems Engineering - Plymouth, MN - Hybrid Make your mark at the world's largest HVAC company Daikin Applied is seeking a Director of Systems Engineering who will lead the development and implementation of systems engineering practices within our product development teams. It is important to ensure the application of INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering) and MBSE (model based system engineering) best practices, focusing on technical processes, systems architecting, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality products in the HVAC industry. Location: Hybrid, Plymouth, MN What you will do: Leadership in SE Practices: Drive the adoption of System Engineering processes and MBSE (model-based) methodologies across all engineering teams, ensuring the integration of modeling tools and techniques into the product lifecycle System Architecture: Oversee the development of system architectures, using models to facilitate better communication and collaboration among stakeholders Design Definition: Lead the application of analytical methods for systems robust design and optimization methodologies, including tolerance analysis, design for Six Sigma (DFSS), and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), to ensure product reliability and quality. Drive the development of predictive models to evaluate total expected variation and ensure designs meet performance criteria across environmental and operational conditions Establish SE Processes: Identify and implement best practices for systems engineering, leveraging model-based approaches to streamline workflows and reduce time-to-market Change Management: Lead change management initiatives to foster a culture of Systems Engineering. This includes training and mentoring teams on MBSE tools, processes, and benefits, ensuring smooth transitions during the implementation of new practices Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements, validate designs, and ensure that models meet business and customer needs Performance Metrics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of MBSE implementation and drive accountability across teams Key Knowledge Areas: Stakeholder Requirements Definition Requirements Analysis & Interface Governance Architectural Design & Platform Definition System Verification Design Definition using analytical methods for Systems Robust Design & Optimization Key Deliverables: Implementation of systems engineering processes aligned with INCOSE and MBS System architecture frameworks that enable smooth integration of subsystems Clear documentation of requirements, interfaces, and validation criteria Successful technical design selections and system-level design trade-offs Regular system validation reports and architecture reviews Key KPIs: Adoption of systems engineering practices across projects Reduction in system integration issues and rework Delivery of products meeting quality, cost, and schedule targets Cross-functional alignment and collaboration in system development What's in it for you: Medical/Dental/Vision coverage, PTO, 401K match, support for community involvement and much more The ability to make an impact and shape your career with a company that is passionate about growth The support of an organization that believes it is vital to include and engage diverse people, perspectives, and ideas to achieve our best Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred Proven experience in systems engineering with a strong focus on MBSE methodologies and tools.
