Overview
ABOUT THE POSITIONVHB's growing Raleigh, NC team is looking for a transportation focused environmental engineer or planner to join us as a Transportation Project Manager. As a member of the VHB NC Planning and Project Development Team, the selected candidate will lead the development of transportation projects, including NEPA/SEPA compliance. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of transportation project development processes, including state and federal agency protocols, and project oversight experience. The ideal candidate will have general knowledge of the technical resource areas evaluated in the project development stage, such as natural resources, cultural resources, traffic analysis and public engagement. The candidate will work with both the Raleigh and Charlotte, NC VHB offices, supporting work across the state and region; the position can be located in either the Raleigh or Charlotte office.ResponsibilitiesWork with an interdisciplinary team to lead environmental planning and project development for a variety of transportation projects including SEPA/NEPA compliance for agencies such as NCDCOT, FHWA, FTA, etc.
Plan for and lead public engagement efforts for transportation projects.Document and communicate findings from expert field observations with clients and public stakeholders.Oversee other planners and engineers in the development of reports, presentations and other deliverables.Mentor junior team members in environmental planning principles and project development for transportation projects.Skills and AttributesAbility to manage multiple projects and work independentlyExperience working with multi-disciplinary projects and teamsExcellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to apply data, analyses methods, and public engagement to environmental planning projectsEnthusiasm for growing business opportunities and presenting at conferencesStrong organizational skills for managing tasks, budgets and project schedulesQualifications5-8+ years of experience in transportation planning or engineering
Some State DOT experience is preferred, but not required
8-11+ years of experience in transportation planning or engineering preferredBachelors in Civil Engineering, Planning or related fieldMasters degree in Civil Engineering, Planning or related field is not required, but may be substituted for 2 years of experiencePE licensure or AICP certification is preferred
