UCSF is a national leader in newborn care. Our children's hospital in San Francisco has a

neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)

devoted to providing the most advanced care available to critically ill infants. As a certified level IV regional NICUs, we are capable of providing all levels of newborn care, from basic to most intensive, and draw patients from across the region. Our San Francisco location, the William H. Tooley Intensive Care Nursery, was among the first NICUs in the world.

Our 180-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital has more than 150 specialists in more than 40 areas of medicine.

Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) was founded in 1964 and pioneered fetal surgery and is a 58-bed unit that provides care for critically ill newborns and has the expertise to treat the smallest, sickest and most fragile babies needing surgery for heart, lung, gastrointestinal and other life-threatening conditions. Our neonatal heart program is one of the largest in the country, treating almost 200 newborns with heart disease each year. The ICN is a Regional Intensive Care Nursery and works with a network of 24 hospitals in Northern California to provide neonatology care.

Required QualificationsPhysician AssistantMinimum one (1) year of recent work experience with the newborn or infant population as a PA or completion of a NICU PA Fellowship.Senior Physician Assistant

Minimum five (5) years of recent working experience as a PA.Minimum one (1) year of recent work experience with the newborn or infant population as a PA or completion of a NICU PA Fellowship.Preferred QualificationsTwo (2) or more years recent work experience in a NICU as a PA.Completion of a NICU Fellowship.License/CertificationHold an active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA).California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.Current national board certification by first day of work and maintain.Hold an active and transferable DEA license to California and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).Complete an AAPA recognized graduate master's degree program as a physician assistant.Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.Current AHA BLS.Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification.

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
