Position Overview:
The First Pattern Maker at Max Studio is responsible for transforming design concepts into First Sample garments, ensuring alignment with the brand’s aesthetic and fit standards. This position plays a key role in the design and production process, working closely with cross-functional teams including design, technical, and merchandising to ensure the final product meets Max Studio’s high standards. The First Pattern Maker will oversee the process of first pattern creation
—from the initial sketch to the creation of first and sales samples—while ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and technical excellence.
This role requires a deep understanding of garment construction, fabric behavior, and pattern grading, as well as expertise in using Modaris by LECTRA. The First Pattern Maker will need to adapt to the fast-paced environment of Max Studio, managing multiple projects with a high level of precision and collaborating with diverse teams to solve any fit or design challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
•Develop and create accurate first patterns based on designer sketches, tech packs, and specifications.
•Collaborate closely with designers, sample makers, cutters and technical teams to ensure all patterns reflect the intended design vision.
•Modify and adjust patterns throughout the design process, incorporating feedback and making refinements for optimal fit and construction.
•Participate in fittings with designers to resolve any pattern, fit, or design issues.
•Create first patterns that take into account fabric behavior, garment construction, and manufacturing processes.
•Maintain and organize digital and physical pattern libraries for future reference.
•Ensure that all patterns are optimized for cost-effective production while maintaining design integrity.
Expected Outputs:
•First patterns based on initial design concepts.
•Produce First samples and Sales samples for showroom and buyer requests.
•Accurate digital and physical archives of all pattern files for future reference.
Required Skill Sets:
•Expertise in Modaris, the LECTRA pattern-making software.
•Strong technical knowledge of garment construction, fabric properties, and fit.
•Proficiency in pattern drafting, grading, and adjustments.
•Familiarity with fitting techniques and the ability to identify and solve fit issues quickly.
•Ability to create detailed technical specifications and communicate effectively with production teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience with draping and flat pattern making.
•Knowledge of other pattern making software or CAD systems is a plus.
•Familiarity with sustainable and efficient production methods.
•Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Technical Design, or Patternmaking
•5 years of work experience in pattern making
•Lectra Modaris, pattern making software system

Salary range: $70,000 – $80,000
