The IT Project Manager will plan, initiate, and manage information technology (IT) projects, guiding technical staff and serving as a liaison between business and technical aspects. They will oversee project stages, assess business implications, and monitor progress to ensure deadlines, standards, and cost targets are met. The role involves portfolio management of assigned projects as an engagement or program manager.
Responsibilities
• Create and maintain project work plans, communicate tasks, milestone dates, status, and resource allocation.
• Guide projects from initiation to close, ensuring requirements for each stage are met.
• Drive projects to completion through the SDLC process under ambiguous circumstances, working at the appropriate level of detail.
• Lead small to large project teams and facilitate post-project reviews for strategic projects.
• Manage all financial aspects of the project portfolio's revenue cycle.
• Oversee day-to-day operational aspects of projects and project scope.
• Determine the level of support and resources required for each project.
• Apply company project methodology and enforce project standards.
• Identify and minimize project risks, escalating to the Project Office and Project Sponsor as needed.
• Improve and automate business processes through technology application.
• Maintain project schedules and milestones.
• Communicate effectively with clients at technical and executive levels.
• Manage relationships with external resources to ensure full value and knowledge transfer.
• Work with Project Sponsors on cost and benefit estimates, budget, project charter, and plan.
• Coordinate activities with in-house staff assigned to project teams.
• Manage and coach project resources, ensuring they are informed of project changes and deliverables.
• Resolve or escalate issues reported by team members or management.
• Establish and manage project budgets, ensuring timely invoicing and payment of project expenses.
• Track and report team hours and expenses.
• Prepare ongoing analysis of actual spend versus budgeted amounts.
• Prepare and conduct regular project review meetings and monthly project reporting cycles.
• Communicate project status to team and management through regular status reports.
• Deliver project presentations as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's (BSc.) degree in Information Technology or a related field.
• 5 to 7 years of project management experience in a technological environment is required. Combination of Agile and Waterfall/SDLC methodologies preferred.
• Completion of a Project Management program; PMP Certification is preferred.
• Industry experience within Life Insurance, Health Insurance, or Financial Services is highly desired.
• Experience in vendor relations is required.
• Proficiency in Jira, Excel, Word, Visio, MS Project, and knowledge of Microsoft Project Online is an asset.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in a pressurized, deadline-based environment with excellent time management skills.
• Proficient in verbal and written communication, with experience in writing technical requirements and specifications.
