Job Description:
We are seeking a proactive and innovative NPD / Design Engineer with a strong foundation in industrial and manufacturing engineering to join our team. This design-centered role focuses on developing and optimizing product features, advancing performance characteristics, and enhancing value propositions to meet and exceed customer expectations. Through hands-on development and refinement of new and existing products within the glass and aluminum extrusion industries, you will play a critical role in creating high-performance, market-leading solutions. The ideal candidate will bring a creative approach to engineering, utilizing manufacturing and industrial engineering skills to enhance product functionality, manufacturability, and material efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design Innovation and Feature Development
- Lead the engineering of advanced product features and performance characteristics, incorporating new technologies and materials to elevate product functionality and meet evolving customer needs. Innovate to create solutions that improve durability, usability, and overall value.
- Product Design Optimization
- Take a hands-on approach to refining product designs, balancing performance, cost, and manufacturability. Utilize principles of industrial and manufacturing engineering to ensure that designs are optimized for production and aligned with customer requirements.
- Prototype Development and Testing
- Lead the creation and iterative refinement of product prototypes. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that design intent aligns with manufacturing capabilities, material performance, and customer expectations. Conduct hands-on testing to validate design improvements.
- Material and Process Evaluation
- Collaborate with materials engineers to assess and select materials that enhance durability, performance, and cost-effectiveness. Integrate these materials into design modifications that improve functionality and support product innovation.
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Apply DFM principles early in the design process to create products that are both high-performing and cost-effective to manufacture. Ensure a seamless transition from design to manufacturing by embedding industrial engineering insights into each stage of design.
- Customer and Market Feedback Integration
- Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to gather insights on user needs and translate feedback into innovative design improvements. Refine product features and performance characteristics to stay competitive in the market.
- Technical Documentation and Design Control
- Generate comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, engineering drawings, and testing procedures, to support traceability and cross-functional alignment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing) or related field.
- Proven experience in product design and development, with a focus on engineering advanced features and enhancing performance characteristics, preferably in the glass or aluminum extrusion industries.
- Strong foundation in industrial and manufacturing engineering principles, applied to elevate design functionality, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
- Hands-on approach to product development, testing, and optimization, with expertise in Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to communicate complex design concepts effectively to diverse teams.
- Highly detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to drive design initiatives independently.
