This role will be based in Manassas, VA.

This role, due to the nature of work being completed or the equipment used on site, requires in-office presence on a full-time basis. This helps to ensure you are set up for success based on the job responsibilities.

Data center engineering is the process of designing, building, and maintaining data centers, which are facilities used to house and manage critical IT infrastructure, applications, and data. Data center engineers ensure the data center infrastructure's stability, reliability, and security. They are crucial in supporting the availability and performance of applications and services. This involves the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical infrastructure of a data center, including electrical and mechanical systems.

Datacenter mechanical engineering involves the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical infrastructure of a data center, including electrical and mechanical systems. Datacenter mechanical and electrical engineers are crucial in ensuring the data center infrastructure's stability, reliability, and safety. They must deeply understand electrical and mechanical engineering principles and experience designing, constructing, and maintaining data center facilities.

Responsibilities include

  • Reviewing new sites, site expansions, and mechanical one-lines for fit-out designs.
  • Developing and ensuring CFD cooling models are sufficient to support installed equipment and hardware.
  • Developing mechanical models and calculations to support our document repository and as-built documents.
  • Supporting data center fit-outs to ensure proper compliance with mechanical commissioning, design, testing, and schedule adherence.
  • Develop, review, and supervise commissioning of new data center spaces and maintenance events.
  • Study, compare, and recommend the best cooling equipment and strategies for data center designs and operational maintenance.
  • Assist in developing liquid to the chip cooling options and designs for future machine learning hardware.
  • Support engineering investigations and root cause analysis for any outage events.
  • Ensure documentation is captured, stored, referenced and share with field engineering and operation teams.
  • Review maintenance notifications for impact and ensure proper risk classifications and resolutions.
  • Train and support onsite personnel to diagnose electrical issues such as phase balancing, overcurrent protection, as well as monitoring accuracy.
  • Test and evaluate new mechanical components for installation into Linkedin’s data centers.
  • Meet with providers to enforce contractual SLAs for temperature, uptime, CFM, and resiliency.
  • Work with our partner teams to properly plan for future hardware and capacity needs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Process Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in defining, designing, and operating data center critical infrastructure.
  • 5+ years in direct data center construction experience.
  • Experience creating and/or executing large-scale critical infrastructure maintenance and reliability programs.
  • Ability to create clear, consistent, and understandable technical documentation to be leveraged by partner teams.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or Project Management Professional (PMP)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical project management, program management, mission-critical electrical infrastructure.
  • 12+ years in direct data center construction experience at a data center provider or constructor.
  • Experience in management, engineering, or operations of hyperscale datacenter critical environments.
  • Proficient in AutoCad and/or Revit as well as implementation or maintenance of DCIM applications.
  • Ability to manage, prioritize and successfully execute multiple concurrent mission-critical projects and communicate effectively to drive standards and consensus across multiple levels of the organization.

The pay range for this role is $103,000 to $170,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
