Position Summary: The OSP Engineer I will manage the end-to-end process of FTTH engineering, focusing on designing telecom infrastructure, interpreting field data, and updating GIS and splicing drawings. This role is essential for enhancing broadband deployment in rural areas, contributing to the mission of providing reliable internet services to underserved communities.

The OSP Engineer I will:

  • Support the Sr. Manager of OSP Planning and Engineering in developing compliant OSP designs.
  • Incorporate client and jurisdictional specifications into engineering prints.
  • Update and revise splicing diagrams.
  • Interpret MRE/MRC documents and applications.
  • Analyze utility maps and features.
  • Maintain project status reports.
  • Oversee engineering vendors and internal designers to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Operate GIS software and hardware (e.g., ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Trimble, 3GIS, OSPInsight).
  • Proficiently use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Access).
  • Edit GPS telecom utility data.
  • Review and correct data integrity issues in engineering documents.
  • Manage document systems, including filing and scanning.
  • Georeference and digitize GIS data.
  • Support field data collection processes.
  • Document OSP engineering procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geography, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field; relevant work experience will also be considered
  • 1+ years of GIS experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and coordinate with multiple business units, both internal and external.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, meet deadlines, and work independently on assignments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings related to utility systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Electric utility and telecommunications experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel for work.
