JOB SUMMARY
- Sapphos Environmental, Inc. is seeking an architectural historian intern who meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualifications for History and Architectural History or is currently working towards finishing their degree which qualifies them as such. This position encompasses technical responsibilities such as archival research, compiling historic context statements, and site surveys. The minimum professional qualifications are a graduate degree or someone currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or closely related field, with coursework in American architectural history, or a bachelor's degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation or closely related field.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in conducting historic resources surveys and assessments, including site inspections, research, photography, and evaluation under National Register of Historic Places, California Register of Historical Resources, and other criteria of significance
- Prepare State of California Historic Resources Inventory forms, Historic Resources Technical Reports and Context Statements, and Environmental Impact Report/Statement sections related to historic resources for review by senior staff
- Assist in research to analyze potential impacts to historic resources under the California Environmental Quality Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other legislation
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:
In addition to the professional requirements listed above, candidates should have the following experience-
- Experience in cultural resources research with knowledge of federal and state cultural resource and historic preservation statutes and regulations
- Knowledge of the history and architectural history of Southern California
- Background in the application of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
- Demonstrated research, writing, and photographic abilities
- Ability to use computer hardware, software, and other related information technologies for extended periods on a daily basis
OTHER SKILLS: Candidates should be detail-oriented; have a professional demeanor and strong organizational skills; and possess the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and multitask in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Compensation
$56,000- $109,000 DOE
The salary range for this position will vary depending on level of education and experience.
