Position Description

Bluebird Kids Health is building a mixture of in-house and vendor-integrated solutions at scale to spearhead our digital platform. We are seeking an inspirational engineering leader who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves. The ideal candidate is a product-focused leader who has experience wearing many hats at fast-paced startups. This role is critical in shaping our product, tailored to the needs of our pediatric patients, their families and our Bluebird healthcare providers. Reporting to the Chief Product & Technology Officer, this role combines engineering leadership with active involvement in product strategy, user research, and operational initiatives. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, guiding the technical development of products that enhance patient care, improve operational efficiencies, and advance our mission to serve children in underserved areas.

What You’ll Do

  • Technology Strategy Development: Spearhead implementation of product and technology strategic roadmap, fully aligned with Bluebird Kids mission and goals, while cultivating a culture that supports and enables product innovation.
  • Engineering Leadership: Lead the engineering team in developing robust, scalable, and secure digital products. Establish engineering best practices, manage technical debt, and prioritize reliability and performance in our solutions.
  • Product Management: Partner with CPTO in implementing product roadmap, prioritizing features based on user needs, and managing the end-to-end product development process.
  • Operational Support: Flex into operational roles as needed, whether it’s supporting clinic IT infrastructure, optimizing workflows, or improving processes to ensure a seamless experience for our patients and staff. Collaborate with clinical operations to understand needs and adapt technical solutions to solve operational challenges.
  • Product Launch Execution: Drive the planning, coordination and execution of product launches, ensuring all aspects are aligned for success, with key focus on customer-centric functionality and workflows.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with clinical, operations and marketing teams to ensure product alignment with user requirements and market trends.
  • User Experience Advocacy: Champion user-centered design principles to create products that are intuitive and engaging for children, their families and our healthcare providers, through direct customer engagement.
  • Research & Innovation: Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities to enhance our product offerings, while conducting user research to continually understand needs of the customer.
  • Analytics Development: Create and implement analytics solutions for internal partners, enabling insights and reporting that drive organizational growth, product enhancements, strategic decisions.
  • Database Creation & Management: Design and manage databases that support data collection, storage, and retrieval, ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate technical and product developments, challenges, and solutions to internal stakeholders and partners.
  • Performance Monitoring: Establish metrics to assess the performance of technology solutions and product effectiveness, making data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in software and/or infrastructure engineering with product management experience.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • A strong product mindset: Experience working closely with product teams with a deep understanding of product development cycles and balancing technical decisions with product goals.
  • Proven track record of successfully launching and scaling technology products.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and product management tools.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills, capable of motivating and driving teams to exceed expectations.
  • Ability to manage high-stress situations and act with professionalism and tact.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
