The Senior Real Estate Counsel will be responsible for providing legal guidance and support to the Development, Operations, and other commercial teams on the development, construction, financing, and operation of renewable energy projects across North America. This position requires a solid background in real estate law, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy projects such as wind, solar, and energy storage.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal expertise in the drafting, negotiation, and execution of real estate documents for renewable energy projects throughout the development, construction, financing, and operational phases.
- Support permitting and regulatory compliance for renewable energy projects, including coordination with federal, state, and local governmental entities.
- Negotiate and draft real estate agreements, including communication with landowners and their legal representatives.
- Assist in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and financing of renewable energy projects by reviewing transaction documents and conducting due diligence.
- Collaborate with project paralegals on the preparation of various real estate documents, such as purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, and title policies.
- Oversee the issuance of title policies by reviewing commitments, endorsements, and surveys, and coordinating title curative efforts as necessary.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently with varying timelines.
- Oversee external legal resources as assigned to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree.
- 5+ years of experience in areas such as energy generation, commercial real estate development, or title insurance.
- Strong knowledge of real estate title issues, including deeds, leases, and purchase agreements.
- Licensed to practice law in Texas or eligible to obtain such licensure.
- Experience with renewable energy projects is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- High energy, self-motivated, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage a high volume of documents and work under pressure.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
