Structural Engineering Manager - Commercial Building Design
We are working with our client, Base Design Group, a full-service structural engineering consulting firmwith Structural Engineering leadership opportunities that are available tojoin their growing team working in the Portland, Maine office.

We are currently offering an opportunity for a Structural Engineering Manager to lead our commercial building design practice area. This position is for a fully qualified professional and will afford the successful candidate a unique opportunity to become a key part of our firm’s management team.
We also have opportunities available for Senior Structural Engineers focused on the cold formed steel design practice area with opportunity for further growth into management or leadership roles.
Requirements of the Structural Engineering Manager:
- BSCE with structural concentration from an ABET-accredited engineering program required (MSCE preferred).
- PE license required with the ability to obtain multiple state licenses through comity.
- 12+ years of structural engineering design and construction administration experience for commercial building construction in a consulting engineering design firm setting.
- Proven leadership of a team of engineers with the ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
- Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318 and AISI.
- Understanding of the roles & responsibilities within the project delivery and construction administration processes for commercial building projects.
- Experienced in the design of steel, wood, masonry and concrete structures.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RAM, Tekla, RISA and similar programs.
- Working experience with AutoCAD and REVIT.
- Ability to effectively establish and maintain relationships with clients.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities of the Structural Engineering Manager:
- Work directly with architects, owners and contractors.
- Write engineering proposals and negotiate engineering contracts.
- Perform structural analysis and design for all aspects of building structures.
- Lead a team of structural engineers, technicians and designers for all phases of commercial building design projects including: drawing and specification production, construction administration, site observations and building assessments.
- Coach and mentor junior level engineers and perform independent reviews of drawings and calculations done by others.
- Drive practice area goals for the company strategic plan.
