Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Application Architect to lead the modernization of our mission-critical mainframe systems. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking to guide our transition from z/OS to z/Linux while maintaining system integrity and operational excellence. The successful candidate will join a legacy system engagement spanning over four decades, bringing fresh perspectives to modernization while preserving essential business functionality.
Key Responsibilities
· Architect and lead the strategic migration from z/OS to z/Linux environments, ensuring continuous system availability and performance
· Design and implement scalable mainframe solutions that align with business objectives and cost optimization goals
· Develop comprehensive migration plans for transitioning from IMS to DB2, including data conversion strategies and validation frameworks
· Lead the phase-out of legacy Broadcom products while maintaining system stability and minimizing business impact
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate migration activities with existing release schedules
· Provide technical leadership in identifying and mitigating risks throughout the modernization journey
· Create and maintain architectural documentation, including transition plans, design patterns, and best practices
· Mentor team members on mainframe modernization techniques and emerging technologies
Required Qualifications
· 10+ years of experience in mainframe architecture, with substantial exposure to both z/OS and z/Linux environments
· Proven track record of successful large-scale mainframe modernization projects
Deep technical expertise in:
· z/OS and z/Linux operating systems
· IMS and DB2 database management systems
· Broadcom mainframe products and their alternatives
· System performance tuning and optimization
· High-availability architecture design
· Strong understanding of mainframe security principles and compliance requirements
· Experience with mainframe disaster recovery and business continuity planning
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with hybrid cloud architectures involving mainframe systems
· Knowledge of modern DevOps practices in mainframe environments
· Background in cost optimization strategies for mainframe operations
· Certifications in relevant mainframe technologies
· Experience with automated testing and deployment tools for mainframe applications
