Brooksource Engineering Services is seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to join our client’s assembly and packaging team in a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing setting in Indianapolis, IN. This is a full-time, on-site position that requires relocation if you are not currently based in Indianapolis.
As an Automation Engineer, you will ensure efficient and compliant operations of automation systems, with a strong focus on inter-system communication, Rockwell FactoryTalk Studio and HMI integrations, and overall automation infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone whose skill set will bring unique insights, helping the team identify potential challenges and proactively accelerate project timelines.
Responsibilities
Safety
- Enforce Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies to ensure a safe working environment.
- Engage in safety audits, job safety analyses (JSAs), and hazard reviews to foster a proactive safety culture.
- Use appropriate PPE (gloves, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses) per task and site guidelines.
- Comprehend and uphold safe operation standards for all assigned equipment.
Technical and Process Capability
- Develop specialized expertise in Rockwell and FactoryTalk Studio, HMI integrations, and automation infrastructure within the production environment.
- Serve as a systems integration expert, enhancing communication between various automated systems and contributing to seamless data flow within the manufacturing line and the broader network.
- Embed with process teams initially to gain foundational knowledge of user operations and production requirements.
- Actively support commissioning and qualification (C&Q) activities, including FAT, SAT, IV/OV, and PQ phases.
- Share insights on data integrity initiatives to strengthen team knowledge and support compliance.
Innovative Contributions and Process Optimization
- Utilize unique skills to challenge current processes, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and operational acceleration.
- Help the team “look around corners” by identifying potential challenges early and suggesting proactive solutions to streamline processes.
- Actively participate in cross-functional meetings, ensuring alignment with process and central automation teams and providing constructive feedback.
- Demonstrate a mindset of efficiency, accelerating project completion times and contributing to best practices for asset deployment.
Fundamental Deliverables
- Manage and document change control processes, adhering to local C&Q procedures and best practices.
- Lead assigned data integrity and automation compliance projects, ensuring adherence to timelines.
- Prioritize tasks based on business impact, providing updates on project status and escalating any challenges as necessary.
- Maintain all required training for the role, keeping up to date on the latest safety and technical requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience with industrial automation systems (Rockwell, Siemens, etc.), including Rockwell FactoryTalk Studio and HMI integrations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a team.
- Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and other software packages for data analysis and reporting.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in automation infrastructure and inter-system communication.
- Background in asset delivery and startup in assembly or packaging, especially in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Proven project management capabilities, with a focus on optimizing processes and challenging traditional practices for greater efficiency.
