Job Description
Overview
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees within the food distribution center. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
Responsibilities
- Safety Program Development and Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive safety program aligned with OSHA standards and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and compliance issues.
- Develop and implement corrective action plans to address safety concerns.
- Conduct safety training programs for all employees, including new hire orientation, annual refresher training, and specific job hazard analysis training.
- Maintain accurate records of safety training, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Incident Investigation and Reporting: Investigate all workplace accidents and injuries, including near-miss incidents.
- Prepare detailed incident reports and identify root causes.
- Implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Report all required incidents to OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
- Emergency Preparedness and Response: Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including fire safety, evacuation procedures, and hazardous material response.
- Conduct regular emergency drills to ensure preparedness.
- Coordinate with local emergency services to establish effective response procedures.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay current on OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety laws and regulations.
- Work with regulatory agencies to address compliance issues and inspections.
- Safety Culture Promotion: Promote a strong safety culture by encouraging employee involvement and participation in safety initiatives.
- Recognize and reward safe work behaviors.
- Foster a culture of open communication and reporting of safety concerns.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred..
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
