Are you a seasoned Electrical Engineer looking to lead projects and provide technical expertise in a dynamic environment?
This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading company in Greater Birmingham.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of electrical projects, from repairs and preventative maintenance to full-scale management.
- Serve as a technical liaison with vendors, ensuring equipment and facilities align with design needs and product applications. Provide guidance to operations personnel on electrical matters.
- Ensure all electrical tasks are completed safely and correctly. This includes interfacing with major power providers regarding electrical distribution and supply systems.
- Manage the electrical aspects of projects throughout their lifecycle, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance. Contribute to project estimates, schedules, and electrical drawings.
- Collaborate with internal and external engineers on electrical and automation systems, including establishing equipment selection criteria. Provide internal consulting on automation systems to enhance productivity and cost-efficiency, and troubleshoot plant electrical issues.
- Assess internal resources and needs to determine when to involve external contractors.
- Guide and instruct regional electrical staff on safe and best practices across all aspects of electrical systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or relevant experience. Continuing education in business is a plus.
- At least 5+ years of electrical experience in mining, heavy industrial, utility, or a related field. Experience designing and managing projects involving diverse power distribution systems (overhead and underground) is preferred. Knowledge of PLCs, Soft Starts, VFDs, Power System Analysis Software (PTW, ETAP), motor control systems, hiring/supervising electrical contractors, and managing small, medium, and large-scale electrical projects is a plus. Experience managing union/non-union employees is also beneficial.
- Advanced proficiency in computer programs like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and AutoCad. Knowledge of mine production techniques and equipment is preferred.
- Strong understanding and application of safety and environmental regulations (NEC, NESC, MSHA, and OSHA). Adherence to safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures is essential.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to plan, manage, and prioritize multiple projects effectively. You'll also possess strong relationship-building skills with all staff levels, internally and externally. A professional demeanor when representing the company to customers, vendors, and colleagues is a must.
