Building Systems Engineer

Building Systems Engineer Overview:

We’re seeking a knowledgeable Building Systems Engineer to play a role in the design, analysis, and optimization of HVAC, plumbing, and other mechanical systems. This position will collaborate closely with architects, construction teams, and other engineers to develop high-performance solutions for commercial, residential, and institutional projects. Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed designs and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, and other building systems, ensuring alignment with project goals, local codes, and sustainability standards.
  • Conduct load calculations, energy modeling, and system performance assessments to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, electrical engineers, and construction professionals, to ensure cohesive system integration.
  • Implement energy-efficient, sustainable practices and technologies within system designs.
  • Ensure all designs meet safety regulations, building codes, and company standards while optimizing for cost-effectiveness.
  • Perform site visits as needed to review installation accuracy, troubleshoot issues, and validate system performance.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation of designs, calculations, and system specifications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical system design and implementation; experience in building systems engineering is preferred.
  • Proficiency with design and modeling software (Revit, HAP, Trane Trace) and familiarity with energy modeling tools.
  • Understanding of building codes, LEED standards, and sustainable design practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues and provide creative solutions to complex design or operational challenges.
