Hotel General Manager

Proper Hospitality is seeking a dynamic General Manager to take the helm at our two ideally-located sister properties in the heart of the desert: Avalon Hotel Palm Springs and Ingleside Estate.
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of hotel operations, ensuring an exceptional guest experience and driving overall business performance. The ideal candidate will lead colleagues with passion and creativity, uphold the brand's high standards, and develop strategies to enhance profitability, guest satisfaction and team engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Staff Management
- Lead, coach, and inspire a team of department heads, supervisors, and staff, fostering a culture of service excellence, teamwork, and professional growth
- Recruit, train, and develop talent while ensuring team adherence to brand standards and operational procedures
- Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate goals, share feedback, and celebrate successes
Guest Experience & Satisfaction
- Ensure all guests receive personalized, attentive service that aligns with Proper Hospitality's brand ethos
- Resolve guest complaints in a timely and professional manner, turning negative experiences into positive outcomes
- Consistently monitor guest feedback and implement improvement strategies where needed
Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day hotel operations, ensuring seamless coordination between departments such as front desk, housekeeping, food and beverage, and spa
- Maintain and improve operating procedures, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, service and attention to detail
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, as well as any relevant licensing and legal requirements
Financial Performance & Reporting
- Develop and manage budgets, monitor financial performance and drive revenue through strategic sales and marketing initiatives
- Analyze financial data to forecast future performance, adjust strategies as needed, and prepare regular reports for ownership
- Monitor operational costs and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality
Sales & Marketing
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create innovative promotions and campaigns to increase bookings, events and brand visibility
- Build relationships with local businesses and community organizations to foster partnerships and drive business
- Represent the hotel at industry events and networking functions, positioning the hotel as a leading boutique destination in Palm Springs
Property Maintenance & Aesthetics
- Oversee the upkeep of the property, ensuring the hotel's appearance and facilities remain in pristine condition
- Work closely with maintenance and housekeeping teams to address any issues promptly
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a General Manager or in a senior leadership role within a luxury or boutique hotel
- Strong knowledge of hotel operations, guest services and hospitality management principles
- Financial acumen with the ability to develop and manage budgets and forecasts
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor a team
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to multitask and handle high-pressure situations with grace
- Familiarity with luxury hospitality trends and the Palm Springs market is a plus
- Degree in hospitality management or a related field preferred but not required
