Our client, a passionate and highly committed Houston non-profit educational organization, is seeking a President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will be the visionary business leader tasked with guiding the organization to advance the institutional mission. This individual will work closely with the Board of Trustees and leadership team to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, ensuring the organization remains responsive and impactful in addressing its key priorities. As a non-voting member of the Board of Trustees, the CEO will have direct oversight of the executive team.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide thoughtful and visionary executive leadership that is inclusive, transparent, and empowering in a manner that supports the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic plan as defined by the Board of Trustees.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Maintain regular and ongoing communication to build strong relationships with the Board, maintaining and building alliances to maximize the engagement of the volunteers to give to and share expertise to move the organization forward. Facilitate appropriate engagement of leadership team members with appropriate board members in a goal specific manner.
  • Work effectively in a variety of situations, with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and with those who represent current or future strategic partners in a way that is situationally strategic and grounded in high integrity.
  • Provide effective leadership and support to a geographically dispersed team, ensuring strong communication, collaboration, and alignment across all functions. Foster a cohesive team culture in a virtual environment by utilizing technology.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction to the executive team and staff, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives. Provide strategic leadership for all functions of the organization in accordance with the mission, objectives, and policies. Promote communication and cooperation among departments to create a spirit of unity in the organization.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and systems to optimize organizational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels within the organization and with external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, donors, partners, and the community.
  • Serve as the primary ambassador and spokesperson for the organization, cultivating relationships with donors, funders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure financial resources necessary to support the organization’s programs and initiatives.
  • Diversify revenue streams and explore innovative fundraising opportunities to enhance the organization’s financial sustainability.
  • Ensure sound financial management and fiscal accountability, including budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor organizational performance against established metrics and key performance indicators, making data-driven decisions to drive continuous improvement.
  • Implement and maintain effective risk management practices to safeguard the organization’s assets and reputation.
  • Oversee the organization’s financial structure, ensuring adequate and sound funding for the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services that advance the organization’s mission and address the needs of its constituents.
  • Monitor program outcomes and impact, using data and feedback to inform programmatic decisions and drive positive change.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships and collaborations to enhance the organization’s capacity to achieve its goals and objectives.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in education, business, or a related field is required.
  • 8+ years of experience in a management role with proven leadership ability.
  • Strong fundraising and resource development skills, with a track record of securing significant funding from diverse sources.
  • Excellent managerial and financial skills with a thorough understanding of best practices in all areas and phases of business operations.
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing individuals and teams with a wide range of individuals representing various backgrounds, levels of training, and career stages.
  • Previous experience in for-profit, non-profit, or central office educational settings preferred. Proven ability to network with both local and national decision-makers who can invest in both the earned revenue and philanthropic arms of the organization.
  • This position requires a willingness to travel to represent the organization on a national level, attending conferences, events, and professional development.
