Network Engineer - Capacity Planning

Our client is looking to fill the role of Network Engineer - Capacity Planning. The Network Engineer Capacity Planner will drive the planning, and delivery of capacity within Client's network and data center locations. They will manage complex infrastructure projects including capacity planning, installations, retrofits, and service migrations. The candidate will ensure the transmission network is planned with sufficient capacity to meet the shareholder's multi service requirements. Manage the network to prevent congestion, meet capacity targets and support deployment of new or upgraded sites and circuits. Ensures network capacity is the maximum amount of data that can be reliably transferred between different locations over a network.
- Salary: $165-$175k
Responsibilities:
- Detailed specifications and schematic engineering drawings for network enhancements and modifications.
- Documentation of network topology maps, network elements, and transport circuits into our inventory system
- Capacity management of mid-range systems and infrastructure
- Communicate and provide capacity executive summaries to our partners and stakeholders
- Data analytics and capacity forecast models
- Understanding of hardware Infrastructure, architecture and disaster recovery
- Advisor for system and application performance improvements with other partners and stakeholders
- Preferred understanding of Agile methodologies
- Attending frequent project update meetings to present status of pending and ongoing projects
- Assists in the execution of planned deployments and upgrades and supports change management efforts within the edge networking group, coordinates change management
- Participates in Service Now trouble ticket resolution and reporting
- Ensures that assigned edge networking trouble tickets or incidents follow established processes and are fully documented within Service Now
- Assists with tier 2 support for widespread events/ incidents to customers and other networking teams as needed
- Proactively identifies and troubleshoots issues related to complex network problems and works them to resolution, including communication to other networking teams
- Participates in the evaluation of, and makes recommendations on, new and emerging technologies as part of the ongoing hardware refresh cycles
- Evaluates current and future network needs and prepares technical solutions and recommendations
- Reviews the development of configuration standards
- Assists in the design of highly complex networks as well as makes recommendations to optimize the edge network for maximum efficiency
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with other employees, vendors, and business partners
- Maintains a working knowledge of network monitoring tools and automation
- Performs other duties as required
Required Qualifications:
- Hands on experience with routers, switches, hubs, bridges, RF Design etc. ideally within a multi-Site environment.
- Experience with or knowledge of most of the following: MPLS, TCP/IP, Radius, BGP, OSPF, RSTP, Packets, SIP
- Experience with ongoing remote-site Infrastructure Assessments and related-proven ability to advise-suggest-recommend changes and updates to older or newly acquired sites
- Experience with the troubleshooting, upgrades, maintenance of Network Infrastructure
- Experience working as the Network-Infrastructure team's key-point person
- Experience administering and/or managing a large-scale VoIP system
- Experience working as part of the design and implementation team for the network infrastructure including network security hardware and software
- Current or relevant with Windows Server Administration including knowledge or experience with DNS and DHCP
- Self-Motivated and Detailed Oriented with excellent oral and written communication skill
- Working closely with all groups within the Network team including RF Design, Real Estate, Construction, Operations, Facilities, System Performance, and the Area Planning team
- Managing vendors to meet targeted network milestones and turn-up dates
- Providing input for budget and overall planning, working within the financial constraints of allocated budget
- Managing project of new technologies/services in the region related to wireless site engineering and operations
- Adopting current and providing new methods/procedures for interconnect tracking
- Working to improve processes that assist in communication and coordination with other network teams
- Providing Project coordination, traffic engineering, and resource management
- Creation of Visio diagrams of the edge network to document new and existing network elements, especially those deemed specialty/ field networks
- Maintains documentation for the configuration of network components including setup, installation, and overall deployment of network hardware and software
