About the Job

We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer for High-Speed Optoelectronics to join our growing team. This position will own the design and development of our 800G and beyond optical transceiver products. You will work across our technical teams and help us to deliver Lumilens’ family of optical transceiver solutions to market.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with photonic chip and subassembly design to co-develop the high-speed RF interfaces.
  • Support selection and characterization of RFICs
  • Perform model extraction, frequency/time domain electrical simulations, device characterization, and debug to validate high-speed interface performance
  • Enable integration of digital-optical functions for next-generation optical transceivers
  • Work with PCB layout engineers to complete high-speed interconnect designs
  • Collaborate with transceiver and package design engineers and suppliers to define chip and package SI/PI goals
  • Plan and execute engineering verification tests, including design of required test boards
  • Support performance characterization of optical transceivers, which will include detailed experimental validation of the constituent sub-components, including analog, control, and DSP ASICs.

Required / Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering/Physics or equivalent education
  • 7+ years experience of developing optical transceivers with market success
  • Knowledgeable of high-speed optoelectronic devices (e.g. lasers, detectors, modulators)
  • Familiar with high-speed ICs, such as DSP, modulator drivers, transimpedance amplifiers
  • Experience characterising and troubleshooting high-speed optical transceivers
  • Experienced user of HFSS or CST
  • Multi-disciplinary background with a demonstrated record of innovation
  • Experienced with high-speed lab equipment such as TDR, VNA, spectrum analyzer for lab validation.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills
  • Candidate will be required to spend the majority of time in our San Jose, California office.
