Job Title: CNC Machinist & Programmer (5-Axis Milling)
Position Overview:
As a CNC Machinist & Programmer, you will be responsible for both programming and machining complex parts using 5-axis milling machines. You will leverage your experience in CAD/CAM software to create precise CNC programs, set up machines, and operate them to produce high-quality components. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in both CNC programming and machining, along with advanced skills in FeatureCAM and NX software.
Key Responsibilities:
- CNC Programming:
- Develop and optimize CNC programs for 5-axis milling machines using FeatureCAM and Siemens NX, ensuring efficient and accurate toolpaths for complex part geometries.
- Generate programs for a variety of part features including pockets, contours, holes, and intricate profiles.
- Machine Setup & Operation:
- Set up and operate 5-axis CNC milling machines to produce precision parts.
- Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials based on the job requirements.
- Perform machine calibrations and adjustments to ensure quality standards and optimal performance.
- Blueprint & CAD Interpretation:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements and processes.
- Ensure that all parts meet the required tolerances and quality standards.
- Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:
- Address and resolve programming, setup, and machining issues to ensure smooth production and minimize downtime.
- Perform adjustments on the fly during machining to maintain part accuracy.
- Process Improvement:
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to identify opportunities for improving machining processes, tool usage, and overall efficiency.
- Suggest and implement process improvements to optimize cycle times, reduce waste, and enhance part quality.
- Quality Control & Inspection:
- Perform in-process and final inspections using various measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM) to verify that parts meet specified tolerances.
- Make programming adjustments as needed to ensure parts are within specification.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other team members to optimize the manufacturability of parts and resolve any challenges in the production process.
- Maintain clear communication regarding project timelines, updates, and potential issues.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain organized records of CNC programs, tooling setups, and any modifications made during the manufacturing process.
- Document and update process sheets, job setups, and other relevant production documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a CNC Machinist and Programmer, with a strong focus on 5-axis milling operations.
- Proven ability to program and operate CNC milling machines using FeatureCAM and Siemens NX software.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in CNC programming, toolpath creation, and G-code editing.
- Solid understanding of machine setup, tooling, and fixturing for 5-axis operations.
- Familiarity with machine controls and CNC programming languages such as G-code, M-code, and conversational programming.
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications or a degree in CNC machining, manufacturing, or a related field is a plus.
- Problem Solving & Troubleshooting:
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve machining and programming issues quickly and effectively.
- Attention to Detail:
- High attention to detail to ensure that parts meet precise specifications and quality standards.
- Communication & Teamwork:
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional CAM Software Experience:
- Experience with other CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD is a plus.
- Industry Experience:
- Experience working in industries such as aerospace, medical devices, automotive, or similar precision manufacturing sectors is highly desirable.
