Position Overview:
Wheeler Staffing Partners is assisting our client in their search for an Estimator IV. This role is crucial for preparing and coordinating estimates on both internal and external projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical/plumbing estimating for large commercial construction projects valued at $10M and above, such as hospitals, university buildings, hotels, high-rise buildings, and airports. They should be able to provide accurate pricing and budgets while building strong relationships with customers and mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and evaluate bid requests and project documents to understand the scope of work and identify pricing gaps.
- Prepare weekly bid calendars and ensure timely completion of estimates and pricing.
- Develop and execute material take-offs, input data into spreadsheets, and review for completeness.
- Obtain and strategize with subcontractors and vendors to create competitive bids and award strategies.
- Prepare cost analyses, including material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs.
- Maintain and develop resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, and industry requirements.
- Foster relationships with customers to enhance bid-day communication and strategic advantages.
- Collaborate with Business Development for procurement strategies and participate in sales activities.
- Attend project scope review meetings and maintain accurate records of all project documents.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical/plumbing estimating, specifically for large commercial projects.
- Experience with central plant estimating for hospitals or colleges is required.
- Proven ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, bid forms, and other related documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present effectively to clients and team members.
- Proficient in estimating techniques, cost control, and performing detailed labor and material take-offs.
- Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards and competitors.
