Operations Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join their team on a direct hire basis. The Operations Manager provides overall management and Leadership of the Production Floor, including CNC Machining, Fabrication, Tube Cutting, Warehousing, Shipping and Receiving and Quality. He / She is focused on providing zero defect products delivered 100% on time. He / She reviews and approves staffing schedules to ensure staffing meets the demand. assesses the training needs of the Team and oversees the training development and delivery. He / She creates, monitors and reports the performance metrics for the Production area. Identifies and implements process improvements across all department as well as other areas when necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise production and warehouse personnel, providing on-the-job training for new personnel
  • Oversee the machining and fabrication of plastic parts. Acrylic fabrication experience is a must.
  • Coordinate with in-house Customer Account Specialists in generating work orders for customer orders
  • Schedule the machining and fabrication work orders, including personnel assignments, to help ensure on-time delivery and zero defects.
  • Program CNC equipment and train others in same
  • Troubleshoot and otherwise optimize processing, especially for complex parts
  • Monitor personnel performance and provide training, direction, and discipline as needed
  • Assist in the quoting process for new jobs
  • Provide input to Management on capacity, new equipment needs, and other shop-related expenditures to serve current and future growth needs
  • Facilitate training programs to enhance team members’ understanding of quality standards and improvement methodologies.
  • Establish and oversee Quality inspection plans, providing on-the-job training to others
  • Perform and/or oversee inspection activities, particularly First Piece inspection and Final Inspection
  • Provide First Article (FAI) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) reports and supporting documentation
  • Oversee the existing ISO 9001 quality management system, including Corrective Action responses, where needed for customer complaints or other problems
  • Oversee or provide maintenance and calibration services; maintain related records
  • Monitor warehouse activities, including Receiving and Shipping
  • Maintain the warehouse in an organized state
  • As needed, provide Receiving, Warehousing, and Shipping support to existing personnel, including with the associated paperwork
  • Provide such other support as Management may request

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have hands-on experience in:

  • CNC machining, preferably in machining plastics
  • Other fabrication activities: e.g., cut-to-length; tube-cutting, buffing, sanding, gluing and bending of acrylic.
  • Administering a work order system; Global Shop experience a plus
  • Personnel supervision and training
  • Experience in Quality Assurance and inspection
  • Familiarity with automotive and medical sectors a plus

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent with 5-10 years’ experience managing a department or shop.
  • Must also have excellent communication skills and computer experience.
