Candidate Profile

This job is for you if you are excited about growing our programs by expanding the base of major donors and ramping up institutional and corporate giving. As a leader you will experience the joy and sense of accomplishment for directly impacting the lives of critically ill children, young adults and their families.

Key Responsibilities

Development

  • In collaboration with the Board, create and execute a strategic fundraising plan
  • Building on existing donors, implement processes and systems for a major gifts program
  • Introduce best practices in stewardship aimed at achieving lasting relationships with donors
  • Diversify revenue streams by exploring institutional and corporate giving
  • Oversee our signature Annual Dirty Socks 5K Run & Walkathon as well as the creation of new special events
  • Train board and staff to create a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization

Leadership and Staff Supervision

  • Establish annual team goals and objectives and report results to Board
  • Mentor, support and inspire team members; conduct annual performance reviews and create
  • opportunities for training and professional development
  • Acknowledge and celebrate team members for their contributions
  • Comply and confirm compliance with Ellie’s Army’s Code of Conduct
  • Handle disciplinary actions, complaints and terminations as appropriate

Operational and Fiscal Management

  • Responsible for compliance with state and federal laws and regulations for 501(c)(3)s
  • Lead the process of preparing an annual budget in collaboration with board and program staff
  • Analyze data to evaluate financial performance and make any necessary adjustments
  • Oversee the preparation of financial reports ensuring that proper accounting and auditing policies are followed

Programs

  • Maintain and implement the fundamental values, philosophy and guidelines that exist for
  • giving grants to approved individuals
  • Oversee the strategic direction of programs to align with Ellie’s mission and goals
  • Design and implement new programs or initiatives that address community needs or
  • organizational objectives
  • Allocate resources effectively for various programs, ensuring they stay within budget while achieving desired outcomes
  • Establish metrics to evaluate program effectiveness and make adjustments based on feedback and outcomes

Board Relations and Recruitment

  • The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors
  • Work to ensure that the board and goals filter into day-to-day management
  • Bring matters not covered by policy or procedure to Board for appropriate action
  • Be accountable for all of Ellie’s Army’s operating affairs and make timely reports to Board
  • Assist Board with strategic plan for financial growth and sustainability ensuring that Ellie’s Army maintains its operations and programs over the long term, including reliable funding
  • sources, effective budgeting, and resource management
  • Facilitate Board development and promote Board role in advocacy and fundraising efforts

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred
  • A minimum of 7 years of senior level experience in nonprofit development including major
  • gifts, foundation and corporate giving
  • Track record of closing principal gifts of at least six figures
  • Demonstrated ability to research, write and obtain federal, state, and private foundation grants
  • Strong storytelling skills using both emotions and data
  • Ability to write in our authentic voice to raise our profile via social media and communcations
  • Knowledge of fundraising ethics, laws and regulations concerning charitable contributions
  • Experience as part of leadership team collaborating on strategy, operations and finance

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $90,000-$110,000 based on experience
