- Supervise and manage operations projects to ensure proper scheduling of staff and materials
- Manage staff in the areas of safety training, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, personnel activities, recordkeeping, transportation scheduling and compliance requirements
- Helps to develop and obtain new business from non-customers and assist ACT sales staff to maintain excellent relations with all existing customers.
- Mentor new drivers, including instruction on equipment use and written documentation needed
- Understand business costs and able to communicate appropriate costs to sales for new business opportunities and quote projects to clients.
- Assist staff members in meeting regulatory requirements of RCRA, DOT and OSHA, maintain compliance and documentation with all applicable state agencies
- Order and control non-office supply inventory
- Communicate with outside vendors and inter-company ACT personnel when additional transportation needs (i.e. Tanker use / Vac Truck use / roll-off work)
- Ensure fleet is serviced as required
- Manage the performance of employees in operations
- Assist operations staff in reducing cycle time at customer sites by developing, suggesting, and requesting staff input for ideas to improve services and decrease cost
- Interview potential candidates for operations positions
- Carry out disciplinary process for operations employees in a respectful, professional manner
- Assign operations priorities for all customer service tasks received directly from customers or ACT sales or operations staff
- Ensure safety and compliance policies are adhered to
- Maintain company operational standards and communicate them to employees
- Work with and motivate subordinates in a positive manner
- Proactively manage by anticipating and correcting potential issues before they occur
- Assist and support staff in developing, documenting, and following systems and procedures for preparing waste shipments, QA/QC maintaining customers' hazardous waste storage areas and implementing TQM principles and methodologies
- Enlist ACT corporate resources as needed to ensure 100% customer satisfaction
- Schedule transportation and disposal for outgoing wastes as needed
- Maintain adequate levels of equipment for emergency response and ongoing projects
- Conduct facility-wide compliance audits including field audits, inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance
- Search for proper vendor review and quotes for maintenance on building property as needed
- Perform other assignments as given by management
Knowledge Skills and Ability
- Familiarity with EPA, DOT, NRC and applicable state and local regulations
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal)
- Profit and Loss management experience a plus
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to respond quickly to a shifting reality and adjust initiatives and priorities accordingly
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background screen, physical and drug screen
- Health and Safety conscious
Education and Experience
- B.S. in Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Science highly preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered
- More than 5 years' prior experience in the hazardous materials/waste industry
- 40-hour OSHA training
- HM-181 training
- Chemist training course
- DOT training
- 8-hour OSHA refresher annually
