Reporting to the AVP, Claims, this role will be responsible to provide advanced technical expertise through strategic thinking and strategic partnering to deliver a high standard of complex and integrated operational controls. The successful incumbent will be the senior operational control leader within Sovereign National Claims who collaborates across all lines of business and strategic execution functional areas to ensure design and operational control effectiveness and ensure industry leading quality in our adjusting functions. This role will be responsible to lead and evolve the reserving processes and standards as Sovereign continues to grow.

This role will be responsible to lead and evolve the reserving processes and standards as Sovereign continues to grow.
How you will create impact:
- Directly managing National Claims staff in efficiently and effectively meeting their mandates.
- Manage the claims governance and auditing processes within the team.
- Managing the reserving processes and standards nationally. Interacts directly with Actuarial and Re-insurance teams as required. Currently responsible for oversight of $307M in reserves (this figure will grow as the portfolio and Claims counts grow).
- Monitoring claims results (new, closed, reserve changes) and providing updates to the AVP, Claims, VP, Finance, Claims & Strategy and SET as required.
- Establish, in conjunction with claims management team, a staff development framework and training curriculum, ensuring that staff skill align with claims operations requirements.
- Responsible to coordinate consistency in the claims budgeting process nationally and responsible to complete the National Claims Operations budget.
- Establishing and implementing standard processes and protocols and training delivery for using our claims systems.
- Managing our claims systems (SharePoint content) and identifying and leading projects to rationalize our claims systems (System changes/decommissioning)

To join our team:
- 10 years of large, complex claims experience, with proven people leadership experience
- Expert understanding of the insurance industry landscape, regulatory environment and competitive environment.
- Working knowledge of operations, technical, and corporate insurance claims operations, regulatory audits, CEO/CFO certification reviews, privacy compliance, audit services, and external audit environments.
- Expert understanding of risk management and risk assessment frameworks, and design and testing of operational controls
- Bilingual capabilities in French will be advantageous
- CIP designation or FCIP courses/designation preferable but not required.
- Proficiency in English is essential to the main duties in this role, including servicing and communicating primarily with majority non-francophone clients, groups, teams. Drafting complex English documents and preparing daily reports for anglophone leaders. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.
