We have an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources and Payroll Administrator to join our friendly, supportive, and hard-working team. This role would suit a graduate or someone with some work experience in HR. Full training will be given; however, numeracy and the ability to solve problems are essential. You will be getting to grips with unfamiliar systems and learning all about Human Resources in Education.
With nearly 550 staff and 1400 pupils, this is a busy department and an exciting time to join a friendly, dedicated and professional team. The Schools and the Enterprise Company have a combined turnover of about £25M. Audited accounts can be found on the Charity Commission website.
This is a full-time position, and we can offer an annual salary of £26,000. We are able to offer some flexibility in hours (minimum 25 hours per week); however, this is a full-year role, and we cannot accommodate term time only working for this position.
Key Responsibilities
Support the HR Managers in all HR administrative duties, including case work and supporting documentation.
Ensure that employee data is kept up to date in the HRIS system.
Be the SME for the HRIS system and the payroll system. (Training on both will be provided)
Ensure that all relevant information relating to tax codes, NI contributions, student loans, tax credits, other deductions, etc., is accurately recorded/input.
Prepare, input and check our payroll data relating to salary, overtime, etc.
Calculate pay variations: back pay, maternity pay, unpaid leave, etc.
Administer statutory and contractual pay schemes (including maternity and paternity).
Ensure that all annual increments and other salary alterations/variations are authorised and implemented correctly.
Oversee the process of e-pay slip distribution and deal with routine payroll queries.
Ensure that all leaver administration is completed.
Support the payroll manager with the preparation and recording of monthly payments to Inland Revenue, pensions schemes, etc.
Liaise with HR colleagues in relation to newly appointed colleagues and to ensure all necessary information is received upon confirmation of appointment.
Liaise with the HR Department in relation to change of terms for existing staff to ensure all necessary information is received and appropriately recorded in the payroll software system.
Essential Criteria
Good standard of general education (including evidence of numeracy).
Intermediate to advanced ability with Excel.
Experience with other Microsoft products.
Knowledge of pay schemes.
Demonstrable ability to work to tight deadlines.
Able to develop a high level of understanding of systems and processes quickly.
Demonstrate a clear focus on excellent customer service.
Desired Criteria
Experience of payroll/finance/HR in a school or other educational environment.
CIPP qualification or working towards.
Previous payroll experience is a distinct advantage.
Previous HR administrative experience is also an advantage.
