Apply locations Westchester Campus time type Full time posted on Posted 5 Days Ago job requisition id R10918Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Research, the Sponsored Projects Manager is a new and unique cross divisional position between pre award and post award in the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP). The duties of this position are twofold: 1) support faculty and staff to kick-start awarded sponsored projects, and 2) support ORSP operations and research activities through project management. The position requires expertise in both project management and grants management with a commitment to continual process improvement.Duties and ResponsibilitiesGuides new awardees during the first weeks of an award about financial and logistical project start up activities, such as hiring consultants, paying stipends, purchasing equipment by navigating institutional business environment and strategizing with faculty and staff for long term success.
Provides guidance to awarded projects to meet timelines and deliverables.
Meets regularly with faculty and staff to navigate university systems and offices needed to get their projects started to help solve logistical, financial, and other operational challenges as they arise.
Develops and maintains knowledge of university financial and grant systems, as well as internal policies and procedures impacting sponsored project activities.
Creates and delivers a New Award Orientation program for faculty and staff to access during the lifetime of their project.
Assists in the evaluation of workflow, organization planning, and development, of sponsored research project management activities for continuous process improvement.
Works closely with PIs and central offices associated with grant awards to understand the business office procedures related to sponsored research activities and compliance.
Devotes 20% time to project management in ORSP related to sponsored research operations, will serve as the point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure completion of project, develop timelines and deliverables, delegating tasks, creates project schedule and timeline.
Participates in ORSP workshops and outreach activities, such as presentations and trainings.
Identifies and implements business process improvements in ORSP.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities to keep abreast of advances in electronic research administration, federal policies and regulations, and compliance.
Minimum 3-5 years previous experience required in sponsor project office in grants management, project management or administration environment. Relevant professional experience with grants and service contracts with a strong commitment to customer service.
Must be self-motivated, able to work as part of a team as well as on an individual basis.
Project planning and project management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and make presentations to department staff, as well as to build one-on-one relationships with colleagues across divisions.
Experience with the Cayuse Research Suite, Workday, Banner or other integrated financial systems highly preferred. Ability to use multiple technical data sources to produce tools and reports needed from systems is desirable.
Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines with proven tact, poise, diplomacy, and professionalism.
Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented.
Solid experience with project management skills from implementation to completion and is nimble to figure out the grey space to move the project forward.
Demonstrated ability to interpret federal/state/private foundation regulations, procedures.
Ability to work hybrid, Remote is possible.
Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Box or other shared document systems.
