This is a full-time 40 hour a week position, with required weekend days.THE POSITION:We have an exciting opportunity at our Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center for an Animal Welfare Specialist. The vision of the MSPCA Animal Protection Division is to proactively address the underlying issues that put animals at risk. We value our connections to communities and organizations, and serve as a resource to protect the largest number of animals possible. Animal Welfare Specialists (AWS) are at the forefront of this mission, working directly with people and their pets to effect positive change in our community. Some job responsibilities include:Meeting and greeting shelter visitors and providing meaningful customer serviceProviding in-depth adoption counseling through thoughtful conversations with potential owners to ensure the best match and outcomes for both animal and ownerProviding judgement free, empathetic surrender counseling to owners, and discussing alternative paths to surrender whenever availableWorking one on one to offer problem solving advice and connect people with affordable veterinary and behavior resources (e.g. low cost vaccinations, training classes, etc.)Participating in staff meetings to identify and solve any issues that may arise in the daily operations of the shelterAPPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:We are looking for applicants with at least one year of previous work with animals and at least one year of experience in a customer service/client care position. Previous animal shelter experience is a plus!
