Description

The Network Analyst/Technician is a central university office position that supports the configuration, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network services and devices.

In the Network Operations Center, the analyst will monitor critical processes for Emory's enterprise-wide systems and applications, address interruptions and failures, and interact with programmers and requestors to troubleshoot and resolve issues producing errors and interruptions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interacts with others to resolve issues within a timely manner.

Applies knowledge of network systems, applications, and network infrastructure to provide technical expertise for network infrastructure designs, expansions, and configurations.

Maintains 24 x 7 coverage and support, including on-call support, to assist with restoring service and maintaining agreed-upon service levels.

Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots network services and devices.

Interacts with customers to resolve network issues.

Performs inspections and upgrades.

Develops and maintains documentation.

Has strong technical aptitude about troubleshooting and testing activities related to network services.

Has the aptitude to perform troubleshooting, testing, scripting, and coding.

Assists with systems, provides support without direction, and supports modifications/changes to configuration.

Reports to the NOC Manager, or the Run or Build Manager of Network Services.

Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, and three years of related IT experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Understanding of the OSI network model and the mechanics of the IP Protocol.

Understanding of the OSI network model and the mechanics of Ethernet.

Understanding of transmission media.

Linux/Unix shell/cli orientation or experience.

Experience or exposure to Ethernet & IP protocol analyzers like Wireshark, tcpdump, etc.

General understanding of IT security challenges as they relate to data networking.

Awareness of network monitoring protocols and their use.

Ability to display an aptitude for learning and a troubleshooting, and debugging mindset.

Practical knowledge of DHCP in operational environments.

Understanding of DNS requests and the types of available records needed to meet user needs.

Experience with incident management systems to track and manage workflow.

Understanding of Service Management practices in an operational setting.

Willingness to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge.

Understanding of the importance of diligence in documentation in an operations setting.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
