Job Duties (training provided):90% - Support of University of Minnesota laboratory-based courses within the DVM curriculum, with a focus on surgery and anesthesia training in the third and fourth years of the program. This includes live animal surgery and anesthesia as well as cadaver and model based training.
The work includes a team approach to the following:* Live animal intake, registration and discharge* Promoting veterinary student understanding of issues related to shelter medicine and rescue groups* Assisting with and answering questions regarding pre-, intra-, post-operative preparation, care, and monitoring.* Participating in the development and delivery of a variety of learning labs including in lab teaching and support (student contact time)* Accurate record keeping* Monitoring patients and communicating observations to students and faculty and assisting with patient care as needed* Preparing the surgery suite, and other lab spaces, for core labs and fourth year rotations, which includes ordering supplies, securing animals, and maintaining lab spaces according to guidelines of the CVM and various accrediting bodies* Answering questions and explaining or demonstrating procedures and equipment use for veterinary students* Ordering and dispensing controlled drugs and pharmaceuticals following proper guidelines* Consulting with faculty, supervisors and others regarding instructional needs of students* Coordinating development of explanatory materials and other learning aids, Redesigning and updating instructional materials as appropriate.* Following IACUC protocol and guidelines for animal use in labs* General student support including office hours
10% - Other duties as assigned* Additional duties include evaluation of learning system design and recommendation of changes for improvement, tours, IACUC inspections, coordination with student organizations ,etc.Qualifications
All required qualifications must be included in the application materialsRequired Qualifications: BA/BS with at least 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal six years. Clinical experience with dogs and cats and/or experience in teaching/mentoring.
Preferred Qualifications:* AAS and/or BS/BA degree in related field of study* Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT)* Experience with Microsoft Office, Google platform, Excel, and Canvas
