Summary

Employee in this position is responsible for maintaining computer systems and other technologies at Island County. The duties include working with other IT Technicians to install hardware and troubleshoot issues, responding to IT questions from County employees and assisting with various technology projects.

Placement or promotion of individual employees within the series of positions is at the discretion of the County, based on educational training, related professional experience, and demonstrated competency in performing assigned duties and responsibilities.

The IT Technician is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the county's personal computer, audio visual, printing, and associated equipment and software. The position is primarily responsible for providing technical assistance and end user support which includes diagnosing, troubleshooting, and determining the appropriate actions to resolve all technology service requests for the county's computer hardware, software, telecommunications, audio visual, and applications. Ensures that hardware and software function properly, performs preventive maintenance, and arranges for repairs or replacements as needed. Manages and performs new hardware and software configuration, installation, setup, and deployment to end users. Maintains records on software, inventory, and maintenance work.

Position may be hired as a Technician 1, Technician 2, or Senior/Lead Technician based upon experience/qualifications.

Hourly Pay Rates:Technician 1 (Grade 10): $25.46Technician 2 (Grade 11): $27.32Senior/Lead Technician (Grade 12): $29.81Job Duties

Adheres to information technology policies and procedures regarding all aspects of computing, telecommunications and networks.Performs a variety of duties in the efficient installation, testing, configuration, troubleshooting and supporting of hardware, software, and equipment.Performs desktop architecture management, including system images for new PCs and distributing/updating software.Setup, locate and relocate PCs, printers and other hardware.Provides a variety of hardware repair functions. Diagnose, repair and/or replace computer memory, hard drives, video cards, network adapters and related equipment.Responsible for effective operation of the IT Helpdesk, which includes creating tickets, solving ticket requests, escalating tickets as necessary, and assisting in providing periodic helpdesk status reports to IT Operations Manager.

Proactively communicates status of helpdesk tickets and related issues to customers.

Ensures helpdesk tickets are resolved in a timely, professional manner.

Assists staff with basic Active Directory needs such as password changing, distribution and security group modifications, user account and email mailbox management.

Maintain asset database of inventoried PCs, equipment, devices, peripherals, and licensed software for the County.

Assists in the maintenance and updating of content on the County's intranet and public website.

Writing and maintaining documentation that describes installation and operating procedures.

Provide end user training for hardware and software applications. Create knowledgebase articles for end users to access in the helpdesk portal.

Support Zoom video conferencing.

Maintains regular attendance.

Perform other related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory user and computer components.

Skilled in installation, configuration, and troubleshooting Windows 10 operating systems.

Skilled in installation, configuration, and troubleshooting Microsoft Office 2016 Suites and other desktop software.

Skilled in using and supporting Office 365 and Microsoft Teams.

Skilled in Microsoft SharePoint and able to assist with user support.

Knowledge of Helpdesk software ticket creation, tracking, and reporting (Crow Canyon).

Familiar with website languages including HTML and CSS.

Familiar with Excel electronic spreadsheet calculations and database concepts.

Skilled in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and deploying system images and applications.

Familiar with computer virtualization technology.

Knowledge of TCP/IP addressing, switches, routers, and other network related equipment.

Must have strong knowledge with desktop hardware, including PCs, laptops, printers, scanners, tablets, smartphones, and other peripheral devices.

Utilizes effective oral and written communication principles and practices.

Maintains effective interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy with internal and external customers and vendors.

Employee must be able to perform multiple work tasks at the same time, perform well with frequent interruptions, be flexible under changing priorities, and tolerate a fairly high level of stress.

Ability to communicate technical information to a wide variety of users at an appropriate level of understanding.

Ability to maintain and deal with confidential material.

Ability to analyze and describe problems graphically and logically.Education, Experience & Certifications

Two (2) year technical degree in computer science, or closely related field.Minimum of two (2) years experience maintaining and troubleshooting personal computer hardware and software proficiency.Valid Washington State Drivers License.
