Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Finance provides fiscal oversight and management, reporting and analysis, policyinterpretation and guidance to department leadership, managers, financial units, faculty and other staff. Theincumbent holds fiduciary responsibility to ensure financial activities adhere to University of California andexternal regulatory policies and guidelines and that cost accounting principles and standards are met andestablishes and maintains internal controls and streamlined business processes. Additionally, the AssistantDirector of Finance works closely with the Senior Director of Finance on planning and execution of departmentalshort- and long-term strategic plans as they relate to finance and/or operations and he/she also functions as a"working" manager providing direct fiscal administration, management and planning for designated departmentoperating funds and activities. This position will also be responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities fortwo (2) Financial Services Analysts who provide direct service to the department finance operations.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $94,400 - $201,800 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area such as accounting, business administration, finance or closelyrelated field and/or equivalent experience / training5+ years Finance and/or Accounting experienceAdvanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office3+ years Prior supervisory, managerial or lead experience especially in overseeing teams of two or more team membersExtensive knowledge of finance policies, practices and systems, budgeting and reportingtechniques, accounting and bookkeepingSolid understanding of financial and resource planning concepts as well as how to control organizational budgetingAbility to prepare and present materials to internal and external constituentsExtensive knowledge of human resource policies, practices, and planningDemonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writingAdvanced skills in the use of spreadsheet and database softwareDemonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization atall levelsProven ability to deal with changing priorities and direct the work of others accordinglyAbility to multi-taskDemonstrated ability to screen applications, interview candidates, and either make selection decisions or recommend individuals for hireThorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resourcesClient services oriented; has good listening, communication, critical thinking, and analytical skillsPreferred Qualifications

Experience working with financial, accounting and/or HR systems with the ability to exportand interpret data for financial analysis or recommendationsExperience in understanding and applying policies and procedures in a college/universitysetting and/or academic medical institutionKnowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
