I. Job Purpose
Our Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for overseeing corporate income tax compliance, ASC 740 tax provision calculations, and complex tax research/planning for KARL STORZ United States (KSUS). This role ensures that all tax filings comply with federal, state, and local tax regulations, leveraging technology and data analytics for efficient reporting. The position requires technical expertise in corporate tax and the ability to apply independent judgment to daily tasks while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
II. Key Responsibilities
Tax Provision & Compliance (ASC 740)
Prepare and review complex year-end federal and state income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740, including foreign tax provision calculations.
Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP financial statement disclosures.
Draft documentation for uncertain tax positions and valuation allowances.
Advanced Tax Research & Planning
Conduct in-depth research and apply tax laws for special projects such as mergers & acquisitions, tax accounting changes, and international tax matters.
Analyze large data sets for tax automation and process improvements.
Produce high-quality written materials, including tax memos, process procedures, and audit responses.
Stay up-to-date with changes in tax legislation that impact KSUS.
Tax Return Preparation
Prepare and review federal, state, and local corporate income tax returns, extensions, and estimated tax payments.
Prepare foreign informational tax forms, including related-party transactions and foreign activities.
Prepare amended tax returns when necessary.
Internal/External Collaboration & Support
Liaise with internal teams (Accounting, Payroll, HR, etc.) and external tax consultants to gather necessary data and provide tax-related guidance.
Respond to inquiries from tax authorities and manage audits.
Offer technical assistance to other departments in structuring business transactions and resolving tax issues.
Lead training sessions on technology and process improvements within the Tax Department.
Operational Efficiency
Recommend and implement process improvements in tax return preparation and automation to enhance accuracy and reduce time spent.
Propose and execute tax planning strategies that minimize tax liabilities in compliance with legal requirements.
Other Duties
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior tax staff (Tax Analysts and Tax Paraprofessionals).
Participate in relevant training and continuously enhance knowledge of KSUS business and tax laws.
Required:
Experience : Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in corporate tax
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field; CPA or advanced degree (Master’s in Taxation) required.
Skills :
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Onesource Income Tax, Onesource Tax Provision, Power BI, Power Query, CCH, BNA Fixed Assets, and Checkpoint Research.
Strong business writing, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently, manage complex tasks, and collaborate in a matrix environment.
Preferred:
Experience : Big 4 public accounting experience
Certifications/Knowledge : Experience in R&D tax credits, transfer pricing, employment tax, sales/use tax, and property tax.
Additional Skills : Knowledge of Alteryx, BNA Workpapers, SAP.
Soft Skills : Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
This role requires a highly organized and technically proficient individual who can work independently and lead tax-related projects to completion with accuracy and efficiency. Could travel up to 10% of the time.
