General Description
Performs highly professional level work involving the review and examination of subdivision, residential, and commercial site plans for construction and adherence to specifications and codes.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions and/or is exposed to one or more disagreeable conditions such as irate customers, outdoor weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, odor, dust, chemicals, etc. at least 25% but less than 50% of the work time.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of methods and practices involved in civil construction plans for residential and commercial projects; county ordinances and state codes; construction and design codes; general engineering principles and practices; methods and materials used in site construction; effective corrective measures.
Required to operate a personal computer and related software applications. Requires creative and business proofreading, editing, writing and research.
Required to read, understand, and interpret civil construction plans for residential and commercial projects, mechanical or electrical diagrams, plans, specifications, blueprints, Florida Statutes, codes and related documents; recognize deviations from plans in construction and installation process; enforce codes and regulations in a firm, tactful and impartial manner; express ideas effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain working relationship with employees, contractors, architects, developers, engineers and public.
Minimum & Preferred Qualifications
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent; supplemented by Five (5) years of experience in reviewing civil construction plans, residential site plans, or commercial site plans; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be computer literate. A thorough understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools is required.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Requires a valid driver license at the date of hire and maintain said license while employed in this position.

- Participates in pre-application meetings.
- Documents deficiencies and conducts conferences with engineers, contractors, developers, architects, and citizens to discuss discrepancies and interpretation of the codes; recommends methods for correcting deficiencies.
- Responds to requests for information from the general public, other governmental agencies, internal departments, and/or other interested parties, and, when necessary, communicates issues to other appropriate personnel.
- Interacts with the public in an effective and courteous manner.
