The Application Engineering Manager is responsible for implementing high risk, highly complex business projects. The incumbent also participates in regular meetings to keep both the business area and IT staff informed of productivity objectives, goals and concerns. The Application Engineering Manager works in a continually changing business and technical environment therefore they are required to stay current on business and technology trends. Excellent written and verbal skills are needed to maintain open communications between project teams, business areas, managers and other IT application areas. This position requires extensive Farm Bureau institutional, P&C business and application knowledge. In addition, you will:Partner with senior IT staff to design and ensure compliance with underlying principles, assumptions and strategies, ensure the integrity of applications, and make recommendations for improvement.Implement high risk, highly complex business applications. Formulate/define business scope, objectives, requirements and deliverables based on system development methodologies.Partner with software/hardware vendors to assist in recognizing possible business solutions. In partnership with the IT Director manage the vendor relationships and Service Level Agreement (SLA's). Set priorities that are in line with business goals.Identify business systems problems, determine level of urgency, work with technical team and communicate to the business area regarding issues/status/resolution.Oversee all staff development aspects including the selection, training/development, disciplining/performance review, salary administration, referring employee complaints, controlling workflow, motivation of employees, and assigned budget activities to ensure that the integrity of all system applications is maintained at all times.Keep abreast of current technologies and assist the business with prioritization of maintenance and projects ensuring that the initiative with the greatest benefit/risk will be worked on first.What It Takes to Join Our Team:College degree or equivalent plus 8 years relevant experience required.Two years prior supervisory/management experience Preferred.Good analytical/conceptual thinking skills, technical systems knowledge, and problem-solving skills are required.Must have or attain a strong understanding of all entities of the FBL Financial Group.Must understand the inter-relationship between business and technology needs.Working knowledge of multiple IT platforms.Oral and written communication skills as appropriate to this position. Keyboard skills as appropriate to this position.Must have or obtain knowledge of company adopted standards and a familiarity of current application development.Ability to write, speak and read the English language.Ability to work in-person from our office in West Des Moines, Iowa.What We Offer You:
