Job Purpose

Safely and effectively manage all driver functions pertaining to the performance of all collection and plumbing services for Island Commodities and IPS.

Island Pumping Service (IPS) is a division of Baker Commodities, Inc.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop a positive relationship with employees and customers, control costs, support growth and develop the transportation personnel.

Manage and complete all daily procurement admin functions, including but not limited to providing data needed for billing, customer follow-up, troubleshooting, and managing equipment needs for all departments.

Report to and perform tasks as requested by the Division Manager.

Handle all department employee issues and take the appropriate disciplinary action. Any employee disciplinary action taken that may lead to employment termination needs to be discussed with Division Manager and approved by Corporate.

Work with union shop stewards to resolve union related issues along with the Division Manager as they occur.

Assist the customer service rep and the Division Manager with sales by helping develop contacts and closing sales. All sales contracts and pricing first need to first be approved by the Division Manager and Corporate.

Set up, execute and manage the day-to-day route set up for the Raw Material, Trap, Grease and Plumbing departments with the assistance of the Office coordinator.

Ensure that the dispatching and scheduling of drivers as well as the maintenance of all routes is performed on a regular and timely basis.

Review route sheets and Telogis driver punches for verification of service, correctness of information and driver notes on a daily basis.

Oversee the Route Clerks in updating and modifying customer notes and information in CSS on a daily basis, based on driver and or customer notes. Follow up to make sure CSS information is being updated as required.

Report and rectify any discrepancies noted on route sheets, weight tickets, etc. and report these to the Office Coordinator for correction and the Division Manager as appropriate.

Oversee the scheduling and administration of formal and informal safety training meetings.

Oversee monthly DOT fleet inspections and maintain all driver DOT files.

Review vehicle tracking devices and report findings daily to Division Manager for appropriate action.

Compare vehicle tracking device reports to time cards and resolve any discrepancies with Division Manager.

Follow up and resolve all customer service issues.

Review all driver DOT logs for compliance and accuracy.

Set up annual renewal and new vehicle licensing documentation.

Keep up regular attendance and punctuality. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for the smooth operation of this company.

Be on call 24 hours per day to receive by cell, text or email any issues from drivers or customers needing assistance and schedule calls back or emergency services.

Rotate weekly a driver and plumber drain tech to cover emergencies.

Interview, post, and hire all new drivers per company policy and under the direction of the Division Manager and Corporate.

Cover as needed for missing driver routes with class A or B driver based on the truck type.

Train drivers and route clerks as needed on job functions.

Complete and submit annual budgets for trucks, repairs, new drivers and supplies.

Make sure drivers are washing trucks every other week.

Perform driver “ride alongs” periodically to confirm that the drivers know, understand and are following company and DOT rules and requirements.

Interact with others in a professional and ethical manner.

Follow department and company procedures.

Keep up regular attendance and punctuality; regular attendance and punctuality are essential for the smooth operation of this company.

Other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the business. These responsibilities may change from time to time as business needs evolve over time.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Professional Certifications, Education, Experience and Travel Requirements

High school diploma required

Minimum two years of supervisory experience

Knowledge of D.O.T. regulations and policies

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel and Word

Must be able to receive emergency call-ins and dispatch the on-call driver on weekends on a rotating basis

Must have a valid CDL Class A

Less than 5% travel requirement

Physical Demands/Requirements

Constantly (over 2/3):

Operates computer and other office productivity machinery such as calculator, copy machine and printer.

Remain in a stationary position for 50% or more of the time.

Review documents, organize data and detect accuracy of information.

Frequently (1/3-2/3):

Ability to ascend/descend in and out of a commercial vehicle and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.

Moves throughout the office accessing files, office machinery, etc.

Communicates with customers and co-workers and exchanges accurate information in-person, telephonically and via electronic devices/e-mail.

Occasionally (under 1/3):

Moves materials or documents up to 25 lbs.

Exposed to work on outdoor weather conditions.
