Animal Shelter Director of Operations

OverviewWe are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Operations to join the team of our non-profit animal shelter. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animals and possess strong leadership skills to oversee our operations effectively. The Director of Operations collaborates with the Board of Directors to carry out the mission of Al-Van Humane Society.
The Director of Operations will oversee processes and teams involved in animal care, intake, foster, adoption, pet transfer, community outreach and education, and volunteers. The Director of Operations sets a professional standard, leads by example, and promotes team cohesiveness. Ability to delegate is critical.
Responsibilities- In partnership with the Board of Directos, designs, implements and supervises internal systems and procedures. Provides oversight to ensure that all areas of Operation are functioning at the highest possible standard.
-Conduct meetings with staff to review procedures, discuss workplace issues and share ideas to improve animal care and the organization in general.- Manage day-to-day operations to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to quality standards. Ensures that animal records and shelter statistics are maintained.
-Ensures the humane treatment of animals in care. Regularly meets or exceeds industry standards and researches new standards. Is or becomes familiar with local laws that pertain to animal welfare or animal control.- Supervise staff members, providing guidance, training, and support as needed. Responsible for hiring and scheduling. Provide regular feedback and timely evaluations.- Monitor financial performance, assist Board of Directors with preparation of annual budget, and analyze financial reports
-Supervises the upkeep, tidiness, and maintenance of facilities. Oversees the inventory of shelter supplies and equipment.-Monitors progress toward program goals (for example, annual goals for length of stay, outcomes, etc.) and provides staff leadership to achieve program goals.- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies- Identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to optimize operations
-Collaborate with Marketing and Board to write and develop grants
- Collaborate with bookeeper to prepare payroll, pay invoices and prepare daily deposits.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Animal Sheltering or related field preferred- Experience in a leadership role within the pet care, veterinary, or animal handling industry preferred
- Strong knowledge of pet care practices and industry trends- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills- Ability to make strategic decisions and solve complex problems: strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task.- Proficient in budget management- Certification in veterinary assistance is a plus
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
