The Office of Public Affairs and Communications is responsible for providing strategic communications support for UC Santa Barbara, working with both internal and external audiences.Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Reporting to and working closely with the Vice Chancellor for External Relations, the Manager of Internal Communications helps strategically evaluate, manage, and improve UC Santa Barbara's internal communications directed primarily at staff and faculty audiences. The position requires proactive and creative thinking about the range of work performed across UC Santa Barbara and how campus leaders can communicate effectively to achieve strategic goals. Duties include writing, editing, and coordinating message distribution with campus leadership, monitoring metrics such as open rates, evaluating new internal communications tools, and developing feedback systems.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Communications, English or related area7-9 years of relevant experience in communications, including internal communications.7-9 years of experience using advanced skills to create, develop, and implement long and short-term strategic communication plans.4-6 years of demonstrated experience using advanced skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications.Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills.Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications.Preferred Qualifications:7-9 years of experience in higher education and/or the public sector.Awareness and understanding of digital communication channels.Ability to synthesize results and identify an action plan to optimize future communications.Special Conditions of Employment:Ability and willingness to work some weekends and evenings to meet critical deadlinesSatisfactory criminal history background checkUCSB is a Tobacco-Free environmentJob Functions and Percentages of Time:50% Developing Communications StrategiesSupports the VC-ER and CMO in developing strategies for effective communications for internal audiences.Works closely with VC-ER and senior campus leadership to identify communications opportunities.Participates as a representative of the Office of Public Affairs and Communication on campus committees.50% Writing, Editing and Researching CommunicationsServes as lead internal communications liaison for the Office of Public Affairs and communications under the direction of the VC-ER and CMO.Oversees a strategic internal communications program.Establishes internal communications strategies in conjunction with senior managers.UC Vaccination Programs Policy:As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs.Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Statement:
