About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract. As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

As the Staff CAE Engineering, you will have a critical technical role guiding and shaping drive unit designs via FEA. You will be part of a very dynamic team that leverages first time capable/fast to market analyses in support of new drive unit designs as well as current production drive units. In addition, you will drive the development of new FEA analysis procedures and correlation effort to test to improve analysis capability. You will work cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineers, Design Release Engineers, Designers, NVH, motor, test, and material groups to ensure successful product launches. You will report directly to the Senior Manager of Core Driveline Systems Powertrain Engineering.

Responsibilities

Work upfront during the design phase to analytically validate via FEA components and system level assemblies against requirements.Topology Optimization blending strength/NVH objectives to help identify necessary ribbing structure within the available package space to meet structural and NVH constraints.Linear static stress analyses for complete Drive Unit systems.NVH analyses (modal, frequency response, mount mobility).Fatigue analyses with knowledge on how to capture pre-stress from assembly loads and scale/superpose function loads to a duty cycle.Sealing analyses with expertise in component hyper-elastic analysis and leading to the system level seal performance of the system.

Proficiency with understanding loads and their applications on various drive unit components/systems.Proficiency with understanding boundary conditions and their application on various drive unit components/systems to capture realistic interactions. In depth understanding of topology optimization with the capability to blend multiple objectives/constraints.In depth understanding of material strength/fatigue, effect of manufacturing on material performance.Support and participate in Design Reviews by preparing and presenting score cards/reports to highlight analysis results and recommendations/solutions to resolve issues.Root Cause launch/prototype issues in a data driven way.

Qualifications

MS in Engineering or higher.10 years + Finite Element Analysis proficiency with Applied Solid Mechanics and Numerical Methods, experience using Altair products for pre-processing (Hypermesh, Simlab, Optistruct), Dassault products for stress/fatigue solutions (Abaqus, Fe-Safe), and N-code.Deep understanding of mechanics of materials, statics, dynamics, fatigue and sealing.CAD knowledge - CATIA preferred.Expertise in 2D and 3D modeling, sub-modeling, sub-structures and sealing modeling expertise (Hyperelastic).Expertise in scripting/coding and automation with Python / C++.Passion for problem solving with the ability to methodically root cause issues by following first principles approach.Ability to make data driven decisions and demonstrate good analytical skills.Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaboratively work with and influence cross-functional departments both internally and externally.Energy & curiosity to make things happen, seek out solutions and represent a world class brand.Understanding of theory in a range of mechanical engineering subjects, including static dynamic, fatigue, vibrations analyses.
