Part timeJob Description:Summary:The Fitness Leader serves as Recreational Sports and Fitness (RecFit) front line facility team member. RecFit strives to maintain facilities that are safe, clean, welcoming, and fun for all participants. The Fitness Leader plays a critical role in helping accomplish this part of our mission. The Fitness Leader assists RecFit in the operations and maintenance of the university’s fitness center with the primary objective of safety and inclusivity for the members and staff.Responsibilities:Actively monitor the members within the fitness center.Responsibly manage all safety hazards.Inform members about programs and activities.Provide guidance and instruction pertaining to exercise form and equipment.Enforce all fitness center policies.The fitness leader is also responsible for preventative maintenance and cleaning of the fitness facility and equipment, which includes dry mopping the group exercise studios, wiping down equipment and railings, sweeping/vacuuming the floors, and organizing the equipment.During each shift, the fitness leader is expected to promote wellbeing and inclusivity by acknowledging and interacting with the members, as well as report inappropriate language and/or behavior.Enforcement of Fitness Center Policies and safety requirements.Providing excellent customer service to the members, which includes providing information about RecFit programs and services.Creating an inclusive environment for the AU Community and its members.The Fitness Leader must complete onboarding before starting work and participate in all mandatory staff trainings during the semester.Responsible - Never leave members unsupervised.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:Part-Time.The Fitness Leader position works on the fitness floor at either the Jacobs or Cassell Fitness Centers.Shifts are typically 2-3 hours each.The Fitness Leader must be able to remain present on the gym floor at all times and enforce the fitness center policies as well as provide information and customer service to members.Salary Range:$17.50 per hour.Required Education and Experience:The Fitness Leader must be enrolled in classes at the start of the semester.Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the willingness to explain and enforce all the fitness center policies in a way that still helps people feel as if they belong and are welcomed.Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, especially regarding various cleaning tasks and facility safety responsibilities.Attention to detail and an eye for safety.Hardworking and enthusiastic personality that is looking to develop their leadership skills.Eager to help others improve their wellbeing and develop life-long healthy habits!The Fitness Leader is required to be able to lift pieces of equipment that weigh 45 lbs.Preferred Education and Experience:First Aid and CPR skills a plus.Additional Information:The Fitness Leader position is open to both FWS and non-FWS candidates.We are seeking candidates that are interested in helping others enhance and manage their wellbeing by working in the Recreational Sports & Fitness Department.For best consideration, submit your application by April 7th.Applicants are highly encouraged to include a cover letter and resume.Select candidates will be asked to complete an employment survey as part of the application process.This posting may close earlier, depending on the number of applications.Other Details:This position is available only to enrolled American University students.Please note this job announcement is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
