ScienceDescription:Senior/Principal System Data Scientist
who can demonstrate significant skills, expertise, and experience in applied development working with complex datasets for spectroscopy systems. Responsible for leading the development, implementation, test, and release of data collection and processing enhancements for chemical identification applications for handheld products. Enjoys developing solutions for internal and external customers with a diverse team ranging from subject matter experts in spectroscopy during development to supporting continuous improvement activities with operations and supporting customers in the field.Responsibilities:Leads data science development efforts, working with software and product management teams to ensure fit-for-purpose solutions.Routinely communicates project status to team and organization, including raising awareness for program issues and driving to resolutions.Drives project report outs and deliverables for formal gate reviews.Deep understanding and track record for developing algorithms/data processing for spectroscopic solutions.Ability to work independently, when necessary, and to interface with multidisciplinary teams, working across departmental boundaries.Qualifications:Skills and Experience:Required:Ability to accept data in multiple formats from the team and quickly reduce the data to actionable information.Significant demonstrable algorithm development skills and experience for spectroscopic systems.Develop features that can be deployed with the support of other team members that reduce operational burden on users which include detection algorithms, data processing algorithms, library management, etc.Develop and execute test plans for features and products in development in the early development stages.Comfortable with developing stand-alone tools with the software team for other team members to use.Mining data from existing sources to gain insight into product performance and fleet performance.Understanding of product development process and norms.An understanding of statistical testing.Willingness and ability to collect data needed to test features and products.Support product management team with customer requests for 'one of' quick fixes.Expert level use of tools such as MATLAB, Python/NumPy/Matplotlib, R, C/C++ (Open source tools are preferred).Strong organizational and communication skills.Experience working with data from sensors/detectors (such as CCD, CMOS, InGaAs).Passion for different challenges and willingness to expand your responsibilities in the business.Ability to lead within a team to enact positive change.Experience developing algorithms/data processing used in analytical devices (such as Raman, FTIR, NIR, XRF, LIBS, MS, etc).Experience working with customers in military, homeland security, pharmaceutical, or petrochemical industries is highly desirable.Experience using open-source toolkits like Pandas, scikit-learn, Keras, or TensorFlow.Experience developing tools used by internal or external customers to support spectroscopic systems development, test, and deployment.Education Required:B.A./B.S. with a minimum of 12 years of experience or M.S. with over 10 years of experience or Ph.D. with over 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering, Science, or related field (i.e., Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science).
