WLSSD treats all municipal and industrial sewage in the Duluth-Cloquet area. Founded as a special purpose unit of government created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1971 to address serious environmental pollution problems in the lower St. Louis River Basin, WLSSD provides wastewater and solid waste services and oversight for a 530 square mile region around Duluth, Minnesota.
What does a Solid Waste Services Manager do?As the Solid Waste Services Manager at Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, you will take the lead in overseeing the District's solid waste operations, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Your role is crucial in maintaining safe, efficient, and fiscally responsible operations across various facilities, including the transfer station, materials recovery center, yard waste and compost site, and the regional household hazardous waste facility. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team across various locations while fostering a culture of accountability, particularly regarding safety engagement initiatives. Knowledge of safety work practices and procedures will further enhance operational excellence and promote a safe working environment for all staff.
A typical background for this role is a bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, geology, chemistry, planning, engineering or related field and four years' experience in solid waste management, engineering, planning or solid waste operations. Supervisory experience is preferred.
