Job Summary:The Physician Assistant provides health care services to patients; participates in the management of patients' care, and determines the need for consultation to ensure the continuity and quality of care.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Obtain and record complete medical history of patientsPerform physical examinations of patients and document resultsOrder, evaluate and monitor medical and laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment plans including laboratory tests, x-rays, pharmaceuticals, blood products and interdisciplinary consults in collaboration with attending physicians or designee and according to established guidelinesPrepare, develop and initiate treatment plans in consultation with attending physicians; develop inpatient and outpatient care and write medication and other orders as prescribedPerform routine invasive proceduresPerform diagnostic and therapeutic proceduresEducate and counsel patient and family members on conditions, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery and other related areasConduct patient rounds and document assessment, diagnoses and treatment plans in progress notesPerform a variety of patient care activities in assigned outpatient clinic (e.g., surgical procedures, pre- and post- operative care, etc.)Prepare discharge summaries as assignedRespond to emergencies and initiate appropriate treatment until relieved of duties by a physicianEstablish and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the department and/or practiceParticipate in clinical and experimental research, including statistical analyses of dataOther duties as may be assigned
Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training:Bachelor's of Science degree from an accredited program for Physician Assistants, including a 6-month to 12- month clinical internship requiredCurrent Michigan Physician Assistant LicenseCurrent Michigan Controlled Substance LicenseCertification from the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants1-3 years experience preferred
Skills and Abilities:Patient management skills necessary to provide quality careAbility to operate accurately a variety of medical equipmentAbility to monitor data, develop treatment plans and prescribe medicationsGood written and verbal communication skills to convey and receive information effectively (face-to-face, telephone and electronic)Good analytical and judgment skillsAbility to use computer software programs and systemsAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel and/or financial dataExcellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks and manage time
Safety Requirements:Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures
Working Conditions/Schedule:40-hour work week, hours and days to be determined by the business needs of the department. Additional hours may be requiredShift Schedule: 12 pm - 10 pm
