Job Summary:Under the limited direction of the attending Physician or designee, the Nurse Practitioner obtains and records patient medical history; performs physical examinations; orders, evaluates and monitors medical and laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment plans. Prepares, develops and initiates treatment plan in consultation with attending physician; performs routine invasive procedures; performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Educates and counsels patient and family members on condition, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery, and other related areas. Participates in the management of patient's care, determining need for consultation to ensure the continuity and quality of care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Obtain and record patients'medical historyPerform physical examinations, assess patients' conditions/symptoms and document results in the electronic medical recordPerform diagnostic, therapeutic and routine invasive procedures; document findings and data in the electronic medical recordOrder, evaluate and monitor medical and laboratory screening and diagnostic tests, treatment plans including laboratory tests, x-rays, pharmaceuticals, blood products and interdisciplinary consultationsPrescribe medications and educate patients regarding reasons for prescribing, medication interactions and side effectsPrepare, develop and initiate inpatient and outpatient treatment plans in consultation with attending physiciansEducate and counsel patients and family members on health conditions, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery and other related areasConduct patient rounds and document assessments, diagnoses and treatment plans in progress notesPerform a variety of patient care activities in assigned outpatient clinics (e.g. surgical procedures, pre- and post-operative care, etc.)Prepare patient discharge summariesRefer patients to physicians, speciality services and community organizations as neededRespond to patient emergencies and initiate appropriate treatmentsEstablish and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the department and/or practice

Education and/or Experience:Graduate of an accredited Acute Care, Adult Primary Care or Family Nurse Practitioner programMaster's Degree in NursingCurrent Michigan Registered Nurse License3 years professional experience in an acute setting preferredSupervisory and/or management experience requiredCurrent ANCC or AANP CertificationCurrent BLS Certification; ACLS Certification preferredKnowledge of nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient careKnowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, JACHO and HIPPA regulationsKnowledge of Public Health Code and Michigan Nurse Practice Act preferred
Skills and Abilities Required:Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situationsGood written and verbal communication skills to convey and receive information effectively (face-to-face, telephone and electronic)Good analytical and judgment skillsAbility to use computer software programs and systemsAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel and/or financial dataExcellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks and manage time
